I've been impressed with the 2/8 cotton spun in Canada over the "usual" 8/2 cotton available here in the U.S. This yarn, Valley's "Eight Two" seems about the same spin as 2/8 (no, 8/2 and 2/8 are not exactly the same though the weight is close), and I am enjoying weaving with it. It's a terrific weight for kitchen towels, comes in a large selection of colors, is strong for warp (*very* little breakage), and the texture is soft with a good drape (even for a towel this is important!). I'll use it again and again, I'm sure, once my stash begins to look depleted!

I used this yarn to make 10 yds of handwoven fabric. There were numerous breaks in the threads that had been retied on the cone. Some came untied during the weaving process which was disappointing. I was making this as a gift for someone else, so the knots were very discouraging to find.

The final fabric was nice though.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

the colors are beautiful, and the hand is lovely.
The swatch washed and dried beautifuly, however....
I knit a swatch and it biases badly. (I know it is made for weaving, but I've been trying to find a fine cotton yarn for machine knitting.)
I'll still use it but will have to knit it in tuck or full needle rib.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

I usually weave with heavier weight yarns (3/2 and 5/2) but I needed finer yarn for a long baby wrap and blanket. This 8/2 yarn is perfect for them. Not bulky or heavy at all, and shrunk up exactly as planned. The five different colors are soft and consistent throughout, and did not bleed with each other. Very pleased overall.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

I used this product to weave kitchen towels. It weaves up very easily and doesnt produce a sticky warp. i love the feel of it even before washing, but after washing, its jsut lovely. I did find a few little knots here and there on the cone but they were not a big issue and tended to disappear within the weave structure.
I will use it again happily. Nice colour range and decent price.

                      Service and delivery comments:

THe service from Webs was wonderful. THe order was dispatched promptly and it arrived quickly and in great shape.
I had no need of customer service as everything jsut went like clockwork. Thanks Webs.

This is my first time use with the 8/2 unmercerized cotton. I usually use heavier yarn (5/2 and 3/2), so I was hesitant to use a finer weight, but this warp of four different colors (including a multicolor) was for a very long baby wrap for my daughter and first grandchild, so the 8/2 was necessary. After days of weaving, I took the 206 inch baby wrap off the loom, threw it in the washer (warm) and dryer. It came out beautifully! It shrunk up just right, and the colors stayed luscious. The hand was very soft--absolutely perfect! Thanks!

I am very disappointed in the quality of my latest purchase of 8/2 cotton. There are so many slubs and lumps in the yarn that I cannot wind a single bobbin without finding many problems in the yarn, especially in the color Shale. It appears that (this being a 2-ply yarn) one ply gets extra length and then the excess twists up and forms a little lump or "pigtail" which causes uneven thickness in the yarn. I am using this to make a smooth fabric and these lumps are very noticeable. I hope there is something you can do to correct this because, other than this problem, I really like your product.

This is by far the softest 8/2 cotton I have been able to find! I have lots of people request woven scarves from me made out of cotton, Valley Yarns has become my go-to. I haven't experienced any problems with the yarn yet, just a slight shedding while I weave on it.
