Berocco's Vintage Chunky is great if you want a soft, machine-washable yarn that is quick-knitting. It is extremely evenly dyed and gauged (so much so that it could be VERY boring to knit a simple pattern).
Because it is soft, washable, affordable and warm, it's my favorite yarn for sweaters for my kids.

Careful knitting is required because every stitch shows in such a bulky, solid-colored yarn. A few of the skeins had weak sections of yarn that I do not typically see in commercial yarn, and which required me to undo partial rows. The yarn does not have a soft feel, although washing helps a bit. The heather colors (I bought dark gray) seemed courser than the solid colors. I made a cardigan, which is rather heavy but nice, as well as a zip-front vest. Both were quick to complete because of the bulky weight.. Although I usually have to use smaller needles to achieve the correct gauge, I actually had to go up a size for this yarn.

Comments about Berroco Vintage Chunky:
I would use this product for just about anything. The yarn has a great color selection, nice texture, and is nice to work with. It splits a little bit but other than that I haven't found anything wrong with the yarn.

Comments about Berroco Vintage Chunky:
First I bought this yarn in Dauglas Fir to knit a gift hat for an 18 years young man. Simple 1x1 ribbed pattern came out beautiful, even, thick, and soft. The recipient said it is perfect. I came back for another scane of Dauglas Fir to knit another hat for my much older friend. The color looks so nice with hazel eyes. I liked this yarn enough to buy another color, this time in Black Cherry, to knit a hat for myself. I have not received it yet, but I am sure it's a hit! It is a real pleasure to work with this yarn. It is soft and knits quickly. I think it is best to be used for hats and scarfs, but it also would make a wonderful thick overcoat. I am curently knitting one from Cascade 128 superwash chunky, and I am much less impressed with that, because it splits and I already can see the lints appearance. Cascade 128 is much more expensive, but it feels like a cotton ball, soft and splitty. And I never complain about splitting. I have been knitting for over 40 years, and I am sorry I did not know about Berroco Vintage before I bought Cascade 128! I am also a loose knitter, so I use #8 needles for the both yarns. Thank you.

Comments about Berroco Vintage Chunky:
This yarn has a wonderful loft and knits up beautifully. I've used it before in colorway Tidepool and was so happy with the results I bought enough for a second sweater in colorway Snow Day. I would definitely use it again.

Comments about Berroco Vintage Chunky:
The Sylvi pattern I was using called for a bulky yarn, but I was making it for someone in Florida so I needed a lightweight bulky. The Vintage Chunky by Berroco was perfect! Bulky but not heavy, and great stitch definition.
