I'm very happy with the way this yarn worked for me. I noted some reviewers found that the yarn "pulled apart". This is a woolen spun, so if you're used to working with worsted spun this is quite different. The spin technique is what allows the dyed in the wool progression of color, and that's what you're paying for. It's not easy to manufacture and the results are awesome. You can break the yarn fairly easily with just your hands, but with a woolen yarn that isn't a defect. It should be handeled carefully when winding and unwinding so that you don't un-twist it. If you wind a round ball and let it roll around while you're knitting it can lose twist. If you get a tangle don't yank on it. Then it should be fine. I would say that the spin is inconsistent. Of four hanks there was one that was more "over spun" and kinked back on itself some. It took a little more patience but once it was knit it was fine. One color was spun a bit thicker than the other which affected both the yardage and the gauge.

I used Karen Baumer's Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf pattern; about 1-1/2 hanks Casablanca knit together with 1 hank of Cascade Kid Seta; 29 stitches on size 10-1/2 needle; 5-1/2" X 74". Knit until the mohair runs out. The Kid Seta gives the scarf a bit more stability and more halo after washing. Finished they are SO soft and drapey and the color transitions are perfect!

i made a simple lace scarf with this and the finished product was pretty and the colors lovely, but knitting with it was a pain. The yarn is far too fragile -- especially if there is a chance you might have to frog even the least little bit to correct an error. I had to make 4 felt joins in one skein when the yarn unexpectedly broke on me because it got tugged on for several different reasons. And these tugs were nothing out of the ordinary and the same kind of tugs I would give any kind of yarn and expect it to hold up! I've never worked with a yarn this flimsy before and hope I don't have too again.

    Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

I love this yar. A lot of people complain that it breaks easy. It does, especially at the beginning and end of the spools but I learned how to use it in all my crochet items. I have made several hats, gloves, and leggings with these and they are so soft and luxurious. I have noticed that with mostly natural fiber yarn that they tend to break easier but they are softer. I believe this is from the shorter hairs that are used in the spinning. But because of this the yarn tend to be softer to the touch. Feels a lot softer than some Noro lines.

    Perfect for self-striping scarf

    Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

I used two skeins to make a striped scarf, similar to the Noro Striped Scarf pattern. It knitted up lovely and I am so pleased with it. It is not an especially refined yarn, but has a rustic quality that is very appealing to me. The first foot or so of yarn was weak and broke on both skeins, but after that I had no problems with the rest of the yarn. I think this is a great, more affordable, substitute for Noro Silk Garden yarn. I would definitely purchase it again for another scarf.

I am using this yarn for a top down short sleeve sweater. The colors are stunning. There is no "shocker" colors like Noro and the weight is good. I haven't had a bit of trouble with breakage and am knitting on #6 needles. It does have a tighter twist but I am of the mind that this may prevent "fuzzing" and pilling. I do like this better than Noro and will definitely order more.
