Eco Wool is one of my favorite yarns. It is so versatile. Because it is a 2-ply worsted-spun yarn, it can be knit at several gauges. You can use it for an Aran sweater on a size 8 needle, or go all the way up to a fairly loose, drapey knit on a size 11. It is probably most at home on about a size 10 needle. The yarn has good stitch definition as well as being soft and well-behaved, so it's great for cables. The downside is that because it's not a true bulky-weight yarn, it tends to compact upon knitting. However, it can be doubled to make a firm fabric. The natural shades of Eco Wool are a sensual delight since they have a great clean lanolin smell, and in addition to looking and feeling great, the lanolin makes your hands soft while you work. When knitters talk about being overcome by yarn fumes, this is what we mean. It's addictive! The Eco Plus has all this plus some stunning, mostly heathered, dyed shades. At nearly 500 yards per skein, it's a great value.

When knit at recommended gauge, seriously stretches when washed so be wary. Wash aggressively block your swatch and knit to it. Then block finished garment to size. (Knit to fit does NOT work with this yarn.) Many dark colours bleed profusely. Wash yarn first (I used synthrapol) if used with light colours in same garment. Otherwise, a really nice yarn.

Comments about Cascade Yarns Eco +:

Have always had great results with Cascade yarns. I find them to be the ultimate work-horse in my knitting projects. I purchased the regular Eco (natural, undyed) yarn from Webs on a sale several years ago. Finally got around to making an afghan for a dear friend for a special b-day and finished it in Nov-15. It came out great and so very soft after washing/blocking. Wonderful stitch definition (used seed stitch and i-cord edging), sturdy, warm and knits-up fast. Everything you want in an afghan. Loved it so much making one for myself. Chose Eco+, which offers a larger variety of colors ... I chose Lichen, which is a beautiful green.

    Service and delivery comments:

I initially ordered 4 skeins but after starting I decided it was best to get another to ensure I have enough. I was worried about getting the proper dye lot as the skeins came in bags of 4. Called to place order and had the option for them to only send if it was a match. I wanted the 5th skein either way (figured if there was any change in color I would use that skein for the I-cord edging where it would blend in). Well, Webs came through for me and sent a matching skein (color and dye lot). In both cases, delivery was prompt and I even got a volume discount on the initial order. I have a wonderful project on the needles for the winter! By the way, my computer screen shows the accurate color but if you have any question/concerns don't hesitate to call Webs Cust. Serv. they are so VERY helpful!

I've used Cascade Ecowool before and thought I'd try the Eco+. I love it!! You can't beat the yardage, and the quality is solid. I found it unraveled a little bit, but I believe it's part of how I'm knitting and my gauge. No biggie. No knots, and only one slub to cut out in over 1000 yards so far. Awesome yarn!

Comments about Cascade Yarns Eco +:

This was the yarn recommended for a sweater pattern I test-knitted. The sweater worked up quickly, keeps me warm, and looks gorgeous. The Peacock color is beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to use this yarn for other sweaters.

The two things about this yarn you need to know going in:
            1. The put-up is so big that I had to wind the hanks into balls by hand because there was too much to fit on my ball winder. Each ball was about the size of a cantaloupe. And I could only handle winding one hank a day; by the end both wrists were really sore and my fingers hurt from having to hold a heavy nostepinne+yarn combo. On the bright side, the large size means you won't need to do many joins or weave many ends, and the yarn spit-splices well.
            2. I had gauge issues with this yarn. The pattern for my sweater was set at 14 sts/4 in, on a U.S. 11 needle. I initially thought I had this gauge on an Addi Turbo size 10, but when I wet-blocked my swatch, the yarn grew tremendously, to only 12 sts/4 in. To get gauge for my sweater after blocking, I had to use a U.S. 8 needle, three sizes smaller! (I generally need to go down one needle size or sometimes two to get gauge, but never three sizes!) The length also grew significantly for me: to get my sleeve length correct, I knitted about 17 inches of sleeve, which I left on the needle with the ball of yarn still attached. I then used contrasting crochet cotton to baste in a row marking exactly 12 inches from the cuff, and gave the sleeve a bath, up to about an inch above my basted mark. When the blocked portion of the sleeve dried, and I measured to the mark again, I got 13.5 inches. So I knew that upon blocking, every 4 inches of length would gain another half inch or so. Thus, be aware that with this yarn, you MUST wet-block your swatch unless you're making something that will never be washed.

I've never had a reaction to wool until I bought 4 skeins of this to make a throw. Ugh. It's coarse and was abrasive to my hands just in the winding. The knitted fabric isn't particularly rough but after a couple of days of handling this yarn, I was itchy, hands were raw and my eyelids were puffy. (I was stunning. Lol.) I knit with and wear wool regularly so there must be something about this particular wool that I'm sensitive to. I would like to see more details about it beyond it being "Peruvian" e.g. what type of sheep so I know what to avoid in the future. I'm now stuck with 4 huge skeins of this which isn't returnable b/c it was on sale.
