the manufacture has decided to decrease the yardage again (it was 256 then went to 205) to 102 yards. if you like this yarn as much as i do, get as much as you can of this cotton classic before it's gone forever :)

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Provence Marl Discontinued Colors:
The many plies in this yarn make for a nice even color distribution, but the yarn is so loosely plied that individual strands pull out (and stay out) especially when "unknitting" to fix mistakes.
The twist is not balanced, either, so it tangles up on itself if there is a significant distance between ball and needles without sufficient tension.
I bought it thinking it was a dk weight and was disappointed to find it worked up at standard worsted gauge causing me a lot of extra math to convert my pattern numbers and making the baby sweater heavier than I would have liked.
Still, the yarn is soft and shows texture stitches nicely. I used it both in plain stockinette and a highly textured rib pattern, and the yarn remained pliant and soft, with significant elasticity in the ribbing - more than I expected in a 100% cotton yarn.
The clearance status makes this yarn well worth the effort involved in managing the drawbacks.

I have made three sweaters with various colors of this yarn. All have had rave reviews. I have one myself. Because of the variegated colors, the look is of a fair isle without carrying yarn.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Provence Marl Discontinued Colors:
I am knitting a light weight, short sleeved cardigan jacket. My sister in law choose the beatnik color which consists of a black strand loosely twisted with two shades of gray. It is knitting up nicely in textured stitch pattern. I was worried that the color variation of the yarn would bury the stitch pattern, but it has not and will be striking when finished. Due to it's silky texture and some tendency to split, I'd recommend using bamboo or wooden needles, particularly for a novice kntter, since it is quite slippery on my Addi Turbos. Using size 7 US needles, I am getting gauge for a Tahki Cotton Classic yarn pattern. I love the effect of marled yarn and will probably knit the Classic Elite spaghetti strap tank with the Spring Bud color I also purchased.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Provence Marl Discontinued Colors:
I made a short sleeve stripped pull over with the orange and hot pink. I liked it so much that I'm now almost finished with and second version of the same pull over in lavender and blue.
This is the best cotton I have used so far (and I knit a lot with cotton) The only thing keeping it from being perfection is having to wind it into balls yourself!
