Classic Elite Yarns Wool Bam Boo

Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo's wonderful combination of fibers produces a yarn with drape, softness and sheen, plus bamboo's hypoallergenic and antimicrobial properties. And because bamboo fibers absorb dyes so well, the colorations of Wool Bam Boo are vivid and exciting.  Made in Italy.

I love this yarn for its sheen, perfect round construction, durability and incredible color depth. I love knitting with it because it's so smooth and perfect. Never a knot.

The bamboo content makes this yarn drape beautifully, but also can cause significant stretching. I don't recommend for a fitted garment or hat. It's great for a slouchy hat or drapey sweater or vest, and I've made all three with this yarn. The sweater sleeves grew about 6" after washing--I am NOT KIDDING about the stretch. You've been warned.

It also behaves strangely during washing. It takes forever to get wet--expect to spend half an hour swishing it around and still see some dry spots. Allow a LONG time to air dry, like 3 days. Can be put in the dryer, though you'll see some abrasion if you wash often.

Wears beautifully. I'm wearing a sweater I made 4 years ago, and it still looks great. Not quite as shiny as it was at first, but not fuzzy or pilling anywhere.

In one of my most daring knitting experiments, I unraveled a sweater made of Wool BamBoo and re-knit it into a drapey vest. That's how I know it has incredible memory. Ridiculous, even. I steamed liberally, washed thoroughly, and dried, but the trained eye can still detect the wiggly texture of the yarn. My vest would look better to me if I'd used new yarn, BUT I reclaimed $70 worth of great yarn and nobody else knows the difference. I'm proud of myself and I LOVE the vest.

This is a true all-season comfort yarn, at least here in the Northwest. It manages temperature very well and is great next to the skin.

I knit on size 5 needles for a cable-rich pattern, size 6-7 for plain fabrics with a lot of drape. Try bamboo needles because this yarn slips a lot on metal. But try it--you'll love it. Yarns like this make knitting so worthwhile.

    not my favorite, sorry

I was expecting more of a wool-like product. This yarn is closer to a sock yarn.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Wool Bam Boo:

I am almost done making a shawl/wrap with the Garnet color of this incredibly soft yarn. It's shiny and has nice drape, just as advertised. It's a little slippery, so I'm less likely to stop in the middle of a row than usual, and the few times I dropped a stitch, it unraveled farther down (4 to 6 rows) than usual, and was a real project to fix. However, that's a direct result of the smooth texture and drape I was after that is making this project such a luxurious knit. I'm using a lace pattern on 4 mm rosewood needles. After trying everything from 2mm to 6mm, bamboo and ebony, to find the best stitch definition to show off the lace patten, I wound up using exactly the recommended needle size. The shine takes away from the pattern a little, but overall, it's turning out just gorgeous. I was afraid it might be too heavy, as I was saving money by using the bamboo/wool mix to get a silk/wool feel, but in fact it's just heavy enough to be cozy. This will be a fantastic three season item. The color is gorgeous and rich. The only real downside I'm finding is that if I look away, I find that I'll miss one or even half of one of the four plys, and not notice it until the next row, when it's tough, but not impossible, to fix. The half price was great, shipping quick as usual. If there were a lighter weight version, I'd be buying that up too. This yarn would make a perfect hot flash sweater or twin set, because the bamboo breathes so well.

I am a beginner and I wove a broken twill scarf with the peach colored bamboo wool used as the weft and a chocolate brown wool used as the warp. Loved the feel and the drape. I will purchase more and wish it came in a lace weight.

This yarn's ply and gentle sheen do justice to your most complex cables - but will be equally flattering to stockinette. Just enough wool for warmth, bamboo for lightness. I knitted a cabled vest for my husband in "mulled wine" and he loves it!
