Classic Elite Yarns Firefly

Classic Elite Firefly is unique in the best way, with a slightly slubby but soft texture and a beautiful, glowing sheen. The drape on Firefly is incredible too. Firefly looks fantastic worked up into cool, sophisticated summer tops and dresses. Made in Italy.

I wish I could give this yarn 5 stars but the description of slobby texture is due to thin/thick twisting of the yarn. There are areas where the thread is not twisted at all. I thought it was a single anomaly but it repeatedly showed up. It will effect your gauge so be aware of it. Also, I had to use #4 needle to get the gauge but that maybe my issue. Otherwise I'm am pleased with the results.

Knitted a wonderful short sleeve sweater with lace edging. Knitted well and stitches were beautiful. After rinsing in cold water, the dye bled horribly. Hung it to dry and the color ran on a towel and once dry the sweater looked tie dyed!!! I was horrified!!! I had a partial ball left and purposefully ran it in hot water to bleed it and try to redye the sweater. It worked, but I'm afraid only temporarily. It is now instead of striped, it's blotchy. Not as noticable and I did wear it to the office. I've gotten several good comments, so hopefully not a total loss. I will not purchase this yarn again. all skeins came from the same dye lot.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Firefly:

This yarn was a very lovely surprise. It feels so coarse and stiff before you knit it. Just knitting with it softened it up tremendously and after washing and blocking it is a fantastically light and flowing, soft and cool summer top. I would definitely use this again for summer tops. It blocks nicely and shows stich definition quite well. I knitted 'Jordan' which is a lacey top and it is quite beautiful. The finished garment has a sheen that is not noticeable when the yarn is in the skein.

I used this for a shawl for my daughter who happens to be vertically challenged (like her mother) and so I did not make it as long or as wide as the pattern.
I am planning to make two more shawls using Firefly for less vertically challenged ladies so will follow pattern as written.
It knits up evenly and I am very pleased.

I designed a 2-skein spring/summer crocheted scarf with this yarn. I worked a lacy pattern at a fairly loose gauge and was really happy with the resulting size and drape (8" x 72" + fringe).
I chose this yarn because I have knit with it in the past.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Firefly:

I used this yarn to crochet a couple of snoods. Since some customers want no-animal-fiber yarns, this was a good choice, It was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. The stiffness of the linen combined with the S twist on the yarn meant that splitting was something to watch out for. I would recommend this yarn, but with caveats.

I've been working with this yarn for 2 weeks and as of 3 days ago I decided to rip out the sleeve of my sweater and find a pattern with texture. I'm an avid knitter and in my 50 years of experience, I have never used a yarn I like less. I've tried 3 different kinds of needles and still my st. st. is uneven. The only thing I like about this yarn is the color, Pistachio.

This is a great weight for a warm climate but the unprocessed(?) linen fibers are very unpleasant and pulling them out is a nuisance. I will persevere with making a short boxy jacket.
