Valley Yarns Williamstown

Valley Yarns Williamstown takes its name from the college town in the Berkshires that tourists and natives love for the quaintness of its buildings and greenery, and the happy surprise of the sophistication that is found in those buildings. Our yarn is much the same, a seemingly straightforward wool/acrylic blend with little surprises of color in each strand. Take it with you for vacation knitting as you tour colleges or go leaf-peeping.  Made in Italy.

I am using this yarn to make myself my first sweater :) It's a beautiful rich brown color with flecks of other colors. It will go well with any color I choose to wear it with. It's so soft. I can't wait to finish my sweater so I can wear it.

Love this yarn, the only exception is that it tends to stretch slightly. Great coloring and super soft. Made a lovely Irish knit sweater.

              Comments about Valley Yarns Williamstown:

This is gorgeous yarn. The colour has nice depth. I thought that the teal might be a bit harsh, but it's actually a beautiful teal with hints of a gunmetal colour underneath. The tweed does't overwhelm. The yarn is very soft and squishy. On one hand, I probably wouldn't have bought it had it not been on sale (due to the close-out), or, at least, I wouldn't have bought so much of it; but on the other hand, I wish that it wasn't being closed out!

                Comments about Valley Yarns Williamstown:

I am using this yarn to make a sweater and will be using several different colors, as I plan on adding a few flower designs to it as well as a contrasting picot border on all edges. The things I love about this yarn, are it's very fine texture and stitch definition, it's lovely wooly feel, the nice amount of tweed: not to much and not too little; there's just enough to make it interesting without being competitive with any colorway you may decide to add. The only drawback, which is slight, if handled right, is that it will split quite easily if you need to take stitches off needle for any reason and reattach them to the needle, as I did. One help for this, and what I consider an absolute necessity with this yarn, is that you use bamboo needles not metal, and especially not addi turbo needles, as this makes the ability to control splitting almost impossible. The bamboo needles allow you to grip the yarn and get the entire loop on the needle everytime, therefore avoiding any splitting. If you use these needles you shouldn't have any further problems. It has a nice twist, but not a tight twist to it, which is probably why it has a tendency to easily split if using the wrong needles. So all in all I absolutely love the way it looks feels and the way it is knitting up. On a size 7 with firm tension, it produces a nice fine knit that is very suitable for any application, cable, colorway, or just plain stitch, letting the tweed make the texture. I will use this yarn again for other things such as scarves and hats, and other sweaters. It makes up a lightweight fabric, but warm enough for winter, without being overly heavy and bulky, but more substantial than sport weight. This a worsted weight, but on the light end of the scale.

delivery from webs is great. If item is in stock it never takes more than a few days to get deliver. and packaging is always excellent.

The forest green on my monitor was deep green. The yarn I received was a greenish-brown color. It is very attractive; just not anything like the color on line.

                      Comments about Valley Yarns Williamstown:

I am a tweed collector. I am always looking for tweed in not too heavy weights. I prefer a yarn that is a worsted on the light side or a dk or sport weight. This yarn is a worsted weight on the light side. Most tweed is a bit course to the touch, even if it is acrylic. This one is very very soft to the hand and next to the skin. I saw it online and ordered the black. I loved it so much, and was so surprised to feel the softness and the nice twist of it that I went right back and ordered the teal. I also got the color card and all the colors are very rich. I will be knitting two shawl collar cardigans. This is a wonderful weight and twist to do a few cables with too. It has a nice amount of tweed. Not too busy, but just enough to add interest and richness to a project.

Making a triangular shawl. Comes out really pretty, and feels nice to work with. The price is also nice, and the color selection is great. The only reason I see not to give it 5 stars is that there's a little bit of a synthetic feeling to the yarn, but it's very minor. I'm definitely planning on using it again.
