i made a simple lace scarf with this and the finished product was pretty and the colors lovely, but knitting with it was a pain. The yarn is far too fragile -- especially if there is a chance you might have to frog even the least little bit to correct an error. I had to make 4 felt joins in one skein when the yarn unexpectedly broke on me because it got tugged on for several different reasons. And these tugs were nothing out of the ordinary and the same kind of tugs I would give any kind of yarn and expect it to hold up! I've never worked with a yarn this flimsy before and hope I don't have too again.

Good color; not good for soft pieces

    Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

I bought some Casablanca to knit a vest for someone who prefers simple, colorful garments and who lives in a warm climate, thinking it might have a similar hand to, but less weight than, cotton. The yarn is not soft, contrary to the description, but quite crisp. The silk adds great color and slubs, and gives the fabric a dry hand, but since it has a lot of wool, it will be much warmer and more elastic than cotton, especially in the ribbed knitting of the pattern I've chosen. I don't see much evidence of the mohair, either in softness or halo.
I am not having any breakage problems (I generally knit loosely, and did also go down two needle sizes to make gauge), but the yarn has a LOT of twist, and I have to let my knitting hang to un-twist every few rows. This may have been the mfr's response to breakage problems, as it feels quite sturdy. I think it will work fine for the simple vest I'm knitting (although she may have to save the vest for winter), but I'm not enamored with the yarn enough to use it again.

          Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

This yarn is what I call "dirty", meaning that the wool wasn't combed well enough before spinning. Now there are "pricklies" in it, tiny bits of plant matter, that rub over the finger and are prickly. This distracts me from knitting because I always stop and try to get them out!
I like the colorway of this yarn a lot.

          Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

I was attracted to the Casablanca because of its lovely color variations and could hardly wait to get my hands on it. Imagine how surprised and disappointed I was when it came apart on my third stitch! It happened so often that I finally realized that this yarn needs special care and loose knitting tension. I finally was able to adjust and it calmed down too. However, I didn't finish my project because I had to knit so slowly and carefully.
I'm surprised that a product so defective would come from Cascade, as I've never had problems with their yarns before. I really hope they can produce another lovely-colored yarn like this, only this time with a stronger weave.

I believe this is a yarn to be discontinued so I was lucky enough to purchase it at a great price. I got the colorway, Forest, and it's very beautiful. I purchased 15 skeins so I have enough for a sweater or vest and more.

                Comments about Cascade Yarns Casablanca:

I purchased this yarn hoping it would be an inexpensive substitute for a Noro project. Wow, was I wrong. The texture was rough and cheap feeling, and the skeins were full of knots and breaks. Despite the fiber content it lacked that touch of luxury you might expect from silk and mohair. The colors were surprisingly dull and lifeless and did not consort happily together. The overall effect was "blah." I've tried it with different needles and stitches, hoping against hope that I can find another use for this stuff. Casablanca has cured me of buying yarns online, sight unseen. Henceforth I will only buy yarns I have met personally. This was an expensive mistake, but I will put it down to a "learning experience." Be careful.

This yarn is easy to work with - I'm making a jacket and trying to get the yarns to kind of match across the front and back. It's an interesting yarn. I've been to Casablanca a few times and thought I'd work with the yarn having the same name.
