Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy

Hemp is an incredible plant fiber that is valued for its strength and durability. It won’t wear out - instead, it will wear in - getting better with age. It will retain color better than any other fiber, including cotton, due to its porous nature which also allows the fiber to breathe. Blended with cotton and modal, Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy is a slightly textured yarn that is a WEBS favorite. Made in Italy.

Have made a couple of top-down summer sweaters with this lovely drapey yarn: Heliotropic Pullover by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark and Buttercup by Heidi Kirrmaier. Lovely yarn for both patterns. Knits quickly and the resulting drape is hard to beat. Only con would be repeated knots per skein. Didn't experience that in every skein, but the last four of the 16 skeins purchased.

I am using this yarn to knit Heidi Kirmaier's "Buttercup". I like the pattern, but the yarn does show some uneven stitches in my knitting. It is also very "splitty" so I have to watch my stitches as I am knitting. I do like the texture of the yarn.

    Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

I am using it for a summer tee that has a raised ridge every four rows. Stitch definition is great.
It is light and soft and I want to use it for other projects using lace patterns, tunisian crochet.
You can tell when you've made a mistake but it is easy to correct as you won't be splitting the yarn. Example: Angled stitch wrong direction. Can see it right away and correct instead of three rows down from teh mistake.

      Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

This is very much not a DK weight yarn. This is closer to sport or even fingering. Seems to be a common problem with yarns on this website. It's better to see yarns in person and judge for yourself.

I bought this to make a baby Outfit. as soon as I touched the yard it was so scratchy and stiff. Then I tried four rows and it was so loose it would not work I don't know if I'm going to use it at all

I was skeptical about this yarn at first. It knits up really unevenly and ugly. But after machine washing and drying, it is gorgeous!

Although it is listed as a DK weight, it is on the light side and could be used as a sport weight.
