I bought 13 balls of Forest Canopy for the subtle color shifts, despite it being 36% acrylic, and substituted it for the recommended yarn to knit Pisa from Peruvia #264. The panels in this pattern show off the color shifts in Coldspring, but avoid merely self-striping. I had no problem finding matching ends when I made joins and found it amenable to spit splicing. It is very evenly spun, had NO knots, slubs, or other imperfections. It grew alarmingly in length when I wet blocked it, but came back into shape when I pinned it out and let it dry. The color was true to the images on the website, deliciously heathery, tweedy, and subtly variegated. I will wear a turtleneck under my sweater, but it is soft enough that the large cowl will not chafe where it comes in contact with my skin. I will be watching to see if it pills.

I was intrigued with this yarn and finally ordered one skein to test it out - color 09. I wanted something with purple in it. The skein appeared to be a purple & green heather, so I just started knitting a swatch. This combination came out looking sort of grey. After a while, the green almost disappeared and a more vibrant purple took its place - I liked this section better. And then the green came back to finish the skein. The shift in color is VERY subtle and was best seen in bright daylight. My narrow scarf was not the best use of this yarn, and on a bigger project the color shifts would probably look better.
I did enjoy knitting with the yarn and think it would be great for a sweater/jacket, somewhat thick but not bulky. I haven't worn or washed the scarf so can't comment on the wear of the yarn.
I would not order color 09 for myself, just not interesting enough, and haven't decided if I'll try another color. I do wish the web site would display larger swatch pictures or actual garments in each colorway to make a selection easier.

Comments about Valley Yarns Cold Spring:
I'm making a kimono-style sweater where the construction of the sweater is very simple, just a series of knit rectangles. The Pizazz lies with the yarn and I couldn't be happier with the rich and subtle red of Cold Spring Autumn.

Comments about Valley Yarns Cold Spring:
I absolutely love this yarn. I've used it for projects that involve cables, stockinette, garter, and textured stitch patterns, and everything comes out looking amazing. This yarn is perfect for warm hats, scarves and cowls, and comfy, snuggly sweaters. It knits up like a dream, the fabric has great drape and is light as a feather, and the stitch definition is great. It has just the slightest hint of a halo, and the way the color changes is simply beautiful. Cold Spring is my new favorite go-to yarn.

Comments about Valley Yarns Cold Spring:
Just finished an Einstein coat, but its not assembled yet. Very easy knitting, and splicing. I ordered the rust color, and there is very little color variation. Not nearly what is shown on line. However, that wasn't my first priority in purchasing this yarn. I bought for the fiber content, main color and weight. I would buy it again.

Comments about Valley Yarns Cold Spring:
I have used this yarn to knit several cowls -- it is so soft and warm, and knits up like a dream. The color changes are subtle and result in a beautiful fabric; no two projects are alike. I just ordered many more skeins in a bunch of different colors -- I just can't get enough!

Comments about Valley Yarns Cold Spring:
This yarn has the hand & look of a popular designer yarn, but at a fraction of its price. I think the color shifts would look great with a simple cable design. I haven't had time to use it yet, but it appears very promising, even though it isn't a bumble-bee-type striping yarn.
