I have made 4 Faina scarves with this yarn and the yarn & pattern are perfectly matched. The diamond pattern created by the ssk & k2tog stitches give the yarn the body that alpaca lacks, while the Blue Sky alpaca sport gives the stitch definition that displays the pattern at its best. I've bought more to enjoy the pattern in different colors. I prefer the Lantern Moon wooden needles with 100% alpaca yarns - those ultra-slick metallic needles are too slippery. Having small dogs that paw the knitting or "nest" on my lap mid-row adds to my personal hazards. But I do love this yarn, nice and cushy to grab by the fistful and soft to the hand and face. I wouldn't recommend it for a sweater or even a vest, but in my opinion, it's the fiber, not this particular yarn. I made a sweater & a shawl with 100% alpaca (worsted & lace, respectively) and discarded both. I recommend this unreservedly, in spite of the fiber having its own limitations. We choose the fiber for the soft or the color, but must choose the appropriate pattern for the fiber. Wool/alpaca blends will drape better than wool alone, yet have body that alpaca alone does not. I don't expect cotton to have the body that wool does, and so won't downgrade 100% alpaca because it does not.

I knit a baby cable pullover from this, and knit it at a firm gauge (size 2's & 3's), yet it grew a lot, and after one gentle hand wash it grew even more. The sweater is now too big. I would recommend this only for hats, scarves, etc, IOW only things where the fit won't matter, because it will definitely grow. (yes I did swatch & washed my swatch, but apparently on a larger mass of fabric it has more weight and this causes it to grow).

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight:
This yarn is the most extraordinary Alpaca I have ever worked with, worn and knit with. It's babysoft character and nice drape is a big plus. The colours are cheerful and fit every mood am in. It knits extremely well and evenly. Alpaca generally has some shedding but the difference in the amount of shedding is the quality of the yarn itself. Blue Sky Alpacas to shed less than other brands. I am also careful not to wear my knits with something that rubs on it and I store items careful when not in use.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight:
I enjoyed knitting the swatch, very soft and smooth. It fuzzed up after one wash, but not in a bad way. I guess that's the "halo" people describe? Just not a fan of it, myself. The black lost dye in the water, but the color of the yarn still seems fine.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight:
I bought my yarn from my LYS, and not WEBS. Agree that it is very soft and light weight. In knitting a slouchy cable hat from a pattern designed for this yarn, I found that the stitches in the cable brim had nice definition. But the rest of the hat, knit in stockinette stitch on circular needles, showed the stitches to be somewhat uneven in appearance--not due to my knitting! On the other hand, the yarn works nicely in diagonally-patterned narrow scarves knit in garter stitch using two similarly toned colors.

Adult grandchildren are hard to please, especially with crocheted items. This yarn was perfect for 4-square hat for grandson in graduate school. Great weight.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight:
It was love at first sight--gorgeous yarn that is soft and unbelievably light! I chose it to make a small neckwarmer in a very simple lace pattern. Instructions called for a size 7 needle, but I had to go down to a #5 to achieve gauge. Stitch definition in this small pattern is not too good, but I think it would be better with a more open lace pattern. I decided to finsh the piece anyway because it is so warm and light. Being highly allergic to wool, I find this yarn to be a nice substitute and am going to try knitting gloves with the remaining skeins. The only minus for this yarn is that it does shed a bit while working and looks a little worn if you have to rip back. Even so, I love it so much I will most likely use it again!

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight:
This Sport Weight was a bit finer than I expected a sport weight to be. Although I used it for a hat, I would recommend putting two strands together for a nice winter weight hat.
