Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky Alpaca

This chunky alpaca blend knits up quick and feels wonderful. It only takes 3 skeins and a pair of #19 needles to create a yummy scarf. Directions are included on the label.  Made in Peru.

I bought this yarn in 3 different colors and made a chunky, striped scarf. The yarn is so soft and very squishy. I love it! However, it does shed quite a bit. It doesn't bother me that much because I can pick up the hairs with a lint roller, but I'd prefer it didn't shed.

I've heard of two techniques to stop the yarn from shedding: 1. Put the folded knit/crocheted item into a plastic bag and place in the freezer for a couple days. 2. Put the item in the dryer and tumble it for 30 min. with no heat. I'm going to try these and see if it helps. I don't want to leave hairs everywhere when I wear it.

This yarn is a major shedder! I knit a scarf in the mink color, intending to gift it, but I'm not sure I can give it away in good conscience knowing it will shed all over. I knit part of the scarf on a plane, and the stranger sitting next to me was left covered in fibers! I was mortified. This is a lovely soft yarn otherwise, but to me, the extreme shedding makes it so I would not buy it again.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky Alpaca:

I ordered this to crochet a "scoodie" (hood/scarf). It is luscious and soft, but I ended up needing to order more skeins in order to finish the project - it didn't go very far because it is (or seems to be) heavier than a regular bulky yarn.

I loved working with this beautiful yarn. I like to splice yarns and this one was difficult to splice. I hope it doesn't pull apart eventually.

Delivery was as promised and the yarn was in excellent condition.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky Alpaca:

I have bought this brand of bulky yarn from Blue Sky Alapaca and this time the skeins were much smaller for a little more money. Ususally for teh knitted cowls I make 3 skeins is plenty but this time I needed 5. Luckily I had two extra balls of yarn laying around because ordering 3 skeins was not enough. That was pretty disappointing.
