This 2 ply yarn came apart during winding about 1/10 of the way. It was painful to wind and will need great care during knitting. I felt and experienced the same as the 3 star review. Everthing is true! This should be discontinued as stated until a better 2 ply yarn can be produced for sale! Now I still have to finish the shawl as planned and expected......

This yarn is just gorgeous! It knits up beautifully. It does seem to want to unravel as I'm knitting, although it hasn't really caused any problems.

I bought two skeins of this to make one of the wide-border lace scarves in "Victorian Lace Today". First, the good things about this yarn: I found it to be very soft, the individual plies were spun evenly (making the yarn sturdier than one might expect from either the fiber or the weight), and it is quite beautiful to look at. There was also plenty of yardage to make a generously sized scarf/shawl.
Now the cons: one of the two plies is twisted around the metallic, and the other ply is twisted VERY loosely around the other two. This means there is a HUGE difference in the way the three plies feed through your hand. I found that even the minimal contact with my fingers from winding the skein into a ball produced patches of "buildup", and that when I knitted with it, I had to occasionally break the yarn to remove big wads of extra length from the plies. I found this very upsetting in a yarn at this price level, and in the 28 years I've been knitting, I haven't experienced this problem with any other yarn in the luxury category. Also, you should expect that the color you select will bear almost no resemblance to the photo. I chose one that was described as "green/wine/gray", when it's actually very deep black, very dark pine green, and slightly-less-black-with-a-reddish-cast. The finished piece, once I had hidden all the places where I was forced to break the yarn, is very beautiful, but the process of working with it so frustrated me that I don't even want to look at it any more; I gave it away.

So far I have made a scarf and a crocodile stitch neckwarmer from this yarn. It is a dream to work with and makes a beautiful finished product. The shimmer is just enough to add a little fun to a sophisticated garment. I was a bit nervous to spend the money without feeling the yarn first but it is worth every penny and I love that Webs discount!
