I purchased 3 hanks to knit Noro's mobius cowl, making it narrower than the pattern called for. Could never knit to gauge, but that did not matter with this pattern. Had enough left over to make a collar from Vogue Knitting's Sping/Summer 2013 issue. Although this yarn is hand dyed, I did not expect such major color differences (in quantity) among the 3 hanks. E.g., there was lots of green, tan, aqua, and rust but hardly any blue in one hank; the other hanks had lots of all the colors.

Comments about Noro Shiraito:

I bought this yarn and ended up finding a great 1 skein cowl pattern. The yarn fiber content is amazing and soft. The problem I had though is it goes from thick to incredibly thin, I should have added a stitch or knit two together at the super thin spots. Was heartbroken to find a major hole in the middle of my cowl where the thin strand must have been. I was able to try and graft it closed but it doesn't look as nice. Just truly disappointed to find this as I was weaving in ends having finished it
In a weekend. Overall a great fiber content but be warned about the thick thin nature and plan ahead. I should have!

        Comments about Noro Shiraito:

I love Noro and Shiraito is an all encompassing visual and textural feast. This yarn is lovely to work with and the results are awesome. I just finished WestKnits Metalouse and people are trying to steal it. It's that beautiful. HOWEVER Not everyone is a fan: There are thicks and thins and textural differences; while listed as a fingering the thickest parts are almost DK and the thins can become lace weight; The colors are eclectic; The color runs rarely start and stop at the same point in each skein; there is the occasional bit of straw. If you like predictability and mainstream coordinated colors there are better choices. I LOVE this yarn and am plotting my next purchase.

I am knitting a scarf. What I love about this yarn are the colours, the texture of the yarn, the inegalities ( sometimes thin sometimes thicher).
I can't find anything wrong with it, and I will make a scarf in each of the colours if the yarn is still available.

                Comments about Noro Shiraito:

When I received this yarn, I was initially disappointed in the dullness of colors (#43) compared to the picture. Then I worked it up and became a loyal fan. The colors and striping is stunning. I made an infinity scarf for my step-mother. She cried when she saw it! It's so lovely. I love the thick and thin texture. There are rare fuzzy spots and rarer thread - thin spots, but that definitely didn't impact the outcome. Of annoyance was the way the yarn twists on itself so that I frequently had to let the item hang to untwist the yarn.
