Berroco Remix

Berroco Remix is a wonderfully soft, non-wool tweed made from 5 recycled fibers! Remix has deep colors with a weathered effect that look great in finished projects. Not only is Remix a great tweed option for those who can’t or prefer not to use wool, this beauty is also machine washable!  Made in France.

This stuff feels a lot like cotton while knitting with it, but a little more elastic. The nice thing is that it's not heavy like cotton. It's as light as wool. You'd NEVER know that about half of the fiber content is synthetic. I can't speak to long-term wear yet, but my swatches came out of the washer great. I will be using this again.

I really like the colors of the retro yarn, and I unfortunately bought a ton of it for an afghan, so now I'm stuck with it. I am having 2 major issues:

The first is that each skein (and I'm on skein 5 now) has at least 2 knots in it where the yarn is broken and has been knotted together. Talk about cheap! Unless you like hard knots in your work, you'll have to cut the yarn and work it in like an end about twice per skein (not counting the actual end of the skein).

Also, in each skein (and again I'm on skein 5) I've come across small bits of what look and feel like hard straw stuck in the yarn, which need to be removed unless you enjoy an occasional bit of pokey hard straw in your work.

In conclusion, lovely tweedy colors, and I rather like the overall cottony texture, but ugh, the quality of the yarn and the cheapness of the multiple knots in a single skein is just too much. Never again!

I used this yarn in the denim shade for trim and the the red for one twin's sweater and hat and the merlot shade for another twin's set. Easy to work with, will be washable which is great for kids' play wear, and the tweedy shades are beautiful.

        Comments about Berroco Remix:

I am using this yarn for a prayer shawl for my niece who is allergic to wool. It is very soft and has a rustic look to it. The only drawback is that there are quite a few pieces of vegetable matter (flax bits?) that I've been picking out but overall I don't find that enough of a problem to count against it. I would use this yarn again.

I am working on a shawl that was designed for this yarn. It is working up so beautifully that I've ordered two more colors and some additional yarn for hats. If you're into basketweave patterns, this is the yarn for you! I can't wait to try a crochet project.

          Comments about Berroco Remix:

I purchased Remix because the knitting pattern (for a child's jacket) called for it. I had never used Remix before. When I got the yarn, I was disappointed for several reasons: the yarn sheds and pills, it picks up loose fuzz, the yarn colors are much too mature for a child and not as seen in the pattern, the yarn feels rough and I am concerned it might not hold its shape. On the whole, I might knit this jacket using a different yarn that is softer and more appealing in color. For now I will complete the pattern to see what the finished jacket looks like with this yarn.

          Comments about Berroco Remix:

I bought this as recommended for the Sawtelle jacket. Colors were not as shown in picture. It is not soft enough for kids things, can be machine washed but has to dry flat. Busy moms don't have time for this. I found the tweed coarse. Too expensive for what you get.

          Comments about Berroco Remix:

Berroco yarn is best, I have found, when used in their own patterns/designs. Well, that makes sense! The yarn you use should match the design you are stitching, so the designers knew their stuff. Enough said.

This is the same with other yarns, as well. I can't name names, but I have a Japanese one in mind for this caveat.
