Valley Yarns Goshen

We fell in love with this yarn at first sight. Valley Yarns Goshen is very soft! The Modal® and silk not only add a slight sheen, but also durablity. Garments will not pill and will stand the test of time. Made in Peru.

I just finished a sweater for my daughter in law and a dress for my youngest granddaughter. What a delightful yarn to work with. Feels great in the hand and knits up beautifully. Love the light sheen the yarn gives to fabrics. Have now used 15+ balls of this yarn and have found not 1 knot in the skein. This is becoming my new favorite yarn. Hope it's not discontinued and that they add more colors.

Found it difficult to use. Slippery and quite slick, very difficult to maintain even tension on straight single points at recommended size. Size 8 was sloppy and irregular; size 7 achieved 4.5 sts to inch, but still rather sloppy. My only resolution was to knit circularly using SIZE 6 wood tip needle to help control tension and achieve a more balanced fabric swatch with a gauge of about 5 sts and 6 rows to the inch. Highly recommend using smaller needles than size 8 recommended to achieve a better hand in the fabric.

Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

Valley Goshen was purchased for baby gifts. My husband's boss was expecting a new girl & the couple already had a three-year-old. I purchased the crochet pattern Girls Dress Tiered Sundress on Ravelry because we live in the southwest. The pattern suggested a chain beginning that is then worked in the back stitch. This was where I ran into splittiness. I changed to foundation crochet and had no problems. The white background with bright rounds is very appealing.

Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE USED A COTTON YARN AND ALTHOUGH IT CAN SNAG OR SEPATATE IF I'M CARELESS, IT'S EASY TO WORK WITH. THE COLOR IS LOVELY AND THE YARN HAS A SILKY FEEL. IT KNITS UP FAST TOO. I WOULD CERTAINLY USE IT FOR A FUTURE SWEATER.

Service and delivery comments:

DELIVERY WAS SUPER FAST AND WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT I NEEDED ONE MORE SKEIN, IT WAS SENT PROMPTLY. I REALLY APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO ORDER OVER THE INTERNET!

This yarn was very easy to knit, and the finished sweater is comfortable, looks good and feels very soft. I liked the first order of this yarn so much that I ordered enough more for two additional sweaters.

Great yarn. I don't like knitting with 100% cotton as it's just too heavy. This is so much better.

      Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

Nice sheen and good stitch definition. Completed one short sleeve cardigan in teal and am now knitting a long sleeve tie-front Cardi in purple haze.

It's very easy to drop down even a dozen rows to fix a mistake without it stretching or making the repair obvious.

      Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

Goshen proved to be much easier to knit than a traditional cotton. Working with it did not tire my hands. I used a pattern from KnitScene magazine and found that my gauge was larger than expected, mostly because it was an allover lace. The finished sweater, though, is a great style and will look good over a tank top, which is what I wanted. The drape is really nice in this yarn.

        Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

This is the first cotton based yarn that I have enjoyed working with. It looks great when knitted and I find that it doesn't stretch out of shape the way some cotton yarns can. And it feels great as it slides over my fingers.

        Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

This yarn is a great value. At the price point it is difficult to find the same quality and functionality. The huge color assortment makes it very good for color work and I have found different dye lots match us very well, which is a big help. It is also easier to work with than other cotton blends.

In a ball, this yarn has a shine which can be make a user think about not using this for a casual item, but it does not knit up with the same appearance. Finished fabrics are lovely and not only drape well, but wear well too. It is very forgiving of errors and works nicely in both Cable and Lace work. Slip stitch patterns highlight the subtle shimmer, I worked a scarf in Linen stitch in Pacific and it is beautiful.
