Ella Rae Lace Merino

Ella Rae Lace Merino is an incredibly soft machine washable merino in gorgeous dyed colorways. This fingering weight yarn would be great for shawls and other delicate accessories, and would also make cozy socks.  Made in Italy.

Comments about Ella Rae Lace Merino:

I made a beautiful sweater calling for a fingering weight and used size six needle. It blocks very well and has gorgeous drape. The skeins are different so I would advise alternating skeins to avoid an obvious color change. I love the feel of this yarn and had no problems winding, no splitting or knots or any issues.

Comments about Ella Rae Lace Merino:

I made my first shawl with this yarn. It is soft, does not separate, the colors are flattering and do not pool funny. I can't think of anything I did not like about this yarn. I had heard from another knitter that she had been shorted on yardage, but that was not the situation with me. I had plenty of yarn left when done with the project. I would use this yarn again in a heartbeat.

Comments about Ella Rae Lace Merino:

Really not that great for lace knitting...very thin even for lace weight and breaks easily. I had a lot of trouble winding the skein. I started making a lacy shawl with lots of "holes" and it has not turned out that well so far. I will be frogging it to make a more closely-knit accessory (e.g. hat)instead. Based on the fibre content and lack of strength, I don't think it will work that well as a sock yarn either.

                Hanks were a mess

The yarn is nice, but...I ordered two hanks and both were a mess and ended up in a big knot when wound.

                Looks gorgeous, wears well.

Comments about Ella Rae Lace Merino:

I made a simple roll-brimmed hat out of the lace merino, using size 1 needles. At least 8 people have commented on how beautiful the hat is! The color of the yarn is so striking that an item of simple stocking stitch will pop. The hat loosens a little with wear, but pulls back to original shape with washing. I have only hand-washed the hat (several times), even though it's supposed to be machine washable, as I haven't wanted to risk ruining it. However, since making it I've acquired a large stash of this yarn, so I'll probably try throwing it into a lingerie bag in a normal wash at some point. Great stitch definition. Like the previous reviewer, I think small needles are a must for socks - no larger than size 1 would be my recommendation.

                Beautiful

                By Anonymous

Comments about Ella Rae Lace Merino:

I've used this yarn for two shawls so far. The colorways are beautiful, the stitches pop, and the yarn, while very thin, is easy to work with and doesn't tangle. I would make a shawl with every color. You would have to use a very small needle (size zero) to make socks though.
