Used Shiro to make a boomerang style shawl to drape around my neck and shoulders. The simple stockinette with purl ridges in the pattern really brought out the rainbow of subtle coloring that Noro is known for. Also made a shawl from Silk Garden, so am able to compare the two yarns. Shiro has more wool and less silk than Silk Garden so it's lighter and less drapey, but still beautiful! Silk Garden is wonderful if you want more fluid drapiness in your garment, due to 45% silk content. Shiro does have occasional spots of thicker yarn but only slightly noticeable in pattern I used, and those spots added interesting texture. The only con I must mention is one spot where yarn was three times thicker. I left that one stitch in the scarf, as there was enough color going on around it to distract from it. It's still a beautiful, soft yarn.

While the long color changes are fun to knit, the twists in the balls are not. The yarn kinks and knots as you are knitting and nothing helps till you get to the end of a ball to unwind it. The material I received had trash (straw) in it, frequently as often as every 3-6 inches. Also lots of unspun or thick spots. I am considering it very rustic and treating it that way. Other than taking more time than usual to deal with the twisting and cleaning, it is knitting into a stable and unusual fabric.

      Comments about Shiro:

Nothing compares to Noro's ability to color shift so beautifully. It has great drape and extreme softness. This yarn takes longer to knit because it twists terribly. I untwist every 25 minutes or so. There is always a caveat with Noro, but it is without a doubt, always worth it!
