This yarn is beautiful and glossy, no doubt about it. However, I don't think it is a heavy worsted. I was unable to make gauge with size 8 needles, and barely was able to make gauge with size 9 needles. The resulting weave was a little too loose to my liking, making it susceptible to splitting while knitting and snagging while wearing. I would like to see more heft and twist to this yarn to really make it a heavy worsted yarn.

    Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:

I used Colrain to make a birthday gift for DH, "The Office Vest", in the navy colorway. Yarn was a joy to knit with, lovely drape and good cable definition. Just one word of warning: I wet-blocked this as I hoped to get a bit more length. It did lose some dye in the bath (used Eucalan and cool water), but the main thing is that this yarn definitely GROWS! Vest became significantly larger. Still looked great, but am anxious to see what happens when washed a second time.

      Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:

I wanted to make a sweater for my son (23). He hates itch and generally doesn't need things that are super warm. He found a nice blue-grey that he liked and we'll see how the sweater turns out. I am knitting on size 6 (so most folks would use 7s) and I do wish the yarn were a little heavier so I could use 7s - I know it would make the sweater heavier but I would feel like things were progressing a bit faster!

I am making a very simple cardigan. The yarn weight is perfect with #9 needles and a slightly textured pattern to create a medium weight sweater that will be an excellent accessory spring and fall.

Wonderful yarn to work with. Currently knitting up a cardigan with this yarn in Grape color and it's been a pleasure so far. Nice sheen to it and the color is vibrant. Also reasonably priced and well stocked. Would definitely recommend.

          Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:

The yarn is beautiful and soft. But I seriously wish yarn makers would get a grip and sell yarn in decent yardage. There's absolutely no reason to be so skimpy and force more knots in our projects.

I was surprised at how soft this yarn is. Because it's a blended yarn, it could be used for children's items. I had no problems with the yarn.

Using this for a lightweight sweater. The wool-tencel combination makes this yarn very soft and is great for stitch definition.
