Cascade Yarns Souk

Souk is a captivating silk & wool blend from Cascade. Harmoniously multicolored slubs create a tweedy look on this variegated, worsted weight yarn - which would knit up into fantastic shawls, cowls, and sweaters. Made in China

    Comments about Cascade Yarns Souk:

The warmth of wool and strength of silk make this a great yarn for a balaclava! Instead of an ugly helmet, you have a beautifully colored cover for your face, neck, and head that won't blow around in the wind.

The yarn is not as soft as could be and rips when knitting very easily.
Could not tell anyone to use this yarn. Complained very soon after starting
a sweater and was told to write a review.

I made a pretty cowl out of this. The pattern was one recommended by Cascade. The texture is not what I expected and I am having a tough time figuring out what to do with the other skeins I bought.

I made a long cowl using the "rainbow" colorway, and it looks pretty good, but has a limp quality that reminds me of an old dishrag!

      Comments about Cascade Yarns Souk:

I am knitting the "Corinne" cardigan from Knitty, and although Souk hides a lot of the stitch detail, its stripes are ideal details in this lengthwise-knit sweater, and it would be good to use for sweaters that need stripes. I didn't have trouble winding it, or find more than a knot or two per skein--it's easy to spit-splice, though, so I don't think knots are a problem--I did break some of the super-duper-thin spots on purpose to spit-splice them, though, just to be on the safe side. I would describe Souk as a rustic yarn, since it's definitely not silky, but it's soft enough for all but the most sensitive necks, with only the rarest guard hairs or tiny pieces of vegetable matter. I prefer it to Noro Kureyon for its texture and more wearable colors.

Not what I expected from Cascade...

      • Twists Up

      Best Uses

        Comments about Cascade Yarns Souk:

I've ordered Cascade yarns a couple of times and have never had a problem. This "Souk" yarn was just awful. Had to hand wind all the balls because it broke SO easily. While winding, I came across several places where the yarn had broken and the manufacturer had simply sloppily knotted it back together. One skein was broken and knotted back together in three places.

          Comments about Cascade Yarns Souk:

I used this yarn in orange to knit a cowl for my sister. I held it with an orange wool Malabrigo Rios yarn (Glazed Carrot) - together they made a bulky size. I had hoped that the Souk would really shine, but instead the wool yarn really dominated, and the color changing Souk was in the background. I would still use this yarn, but in the future I think I'd use it alone. The Souk has lovely color changing, and I'd like to have that highlighted a bit more. I had no problems with the yarn, and did not have the experience of it breaking while being wound.

don't try to put this yarn on a winder. it came apart on me 3 times and finally wound it by hand. seems more delicate than I expected. It is very pretty; I am making a pocketbook out of it so it has a stained glass look. It isn't striping as nicely as I had hoped. too long a green area or a blue. I wanted more of a rainbow look but all is well otherwise

This yarn worked up so beautifully in the hoody sweater I made. You cannot expect to match each piece of the sweaters color variations with the next piece you are knitting for that item. However, that is still a great look and fun.
