I knit mostly 100% wool socks, worsted-weight for personal use and wear such socks every day. This yarn is economical, durable, attractive (many color choices), holds color after many hand-washings, holds shape well after multiple washings (requires no blocking), consistent from color to color in weight/gauge, and the foundation of my sock-knitting for past several years (have used other brands/types as well.) When used in striped socks, there's no "bleed" from one color to another during/after washing as there is with some other (much more expensive) yarns.

Not so hot: Rare instances (not every ball...<1 in 10) of uneven yarn diameter (loose "fluff" more often than thin spot), or ball mended with a knot somewhere in the 200 yards. However, neither has been a problem in socks so far.

Some of the comments I read on this yarn said it was softer than Cascade 220. I have some of that, and I disagree -- I think the Cascade is a fair bit softer than this. The Ella Rae is, however, fuzzier.

I was a little concerned when I got the yarn that the texture wouldn't be nice enough, but when I showed it to my husband, who will be the ultimate recipient of the sweater, he said "I like it! It feels nice and sturdy!" Make of that what you will. It was enough to convince me to keep it, in any case.

I will say that the texture improves once it's knit up into fabric. However, I find it a bit hard on the hands to work with, which is not a problem I often have.

A little coarse for items next to skin. Perfect for felting. I made felted slippers and they were perfect.

Comments about Ella Rae Classic Wool:

I am using this yarn to make a cabled pullover. It has great stitch definition and makes my cables pop. It might not be the best to wear next to the skin but I will be wearing something under the sweater. It comes in great lengths and at a good price.

I've made two pairs of felted slippers using this yarn so far and they've both come out very nice. Just bought more for the same use. If you're looking for a decent worsted wool, this is it. Color selection I s excellent, been happy with all 7 I have ordered thus far.
