A big skein of 450 yards makes two socks and then some. Made in Peru.

I bought this because of the great price at WEBS and also the colors...plus I love Alpaca! I used this yarn for two simple triangular shawls. The gorgeous colors are really on display! The yarn is Very soft..lovely to work with! I found no knots...no damaged spots...just a soft, beautiful yarn. It is loosely spun, I had to pay attention to avoid splits..but it was not a big issue. I used a 6 needle to get a lacey look and the result looks Much more sophisticated than a garter shawl! This yarn is a joy to work with!

The three stars = "average, ordinary" for me means that while this yarn is beautiful, it won't meet the needs I have for socks that stand up to how we live here in the land of giant ferns and banana slugs. I started a pair of socks with this yarn. First I had to keep shrinking my hook from the usual B to steel 1, then 2, then 3. This wasn't easy, as the finish of the yarn is rather fuzzy. As the stitches emerged, I realized there's no way this fabric would hold up to the rigors of Alpine boots or hiking sandals slogging through mud and water. I found it way too thin, and the two plys seemed constantly wanting a divorce from each other. So I frogged out the footie and have plans to carry two strands of the yarn for a more decorative garment. It's really pretty stuff.

Shed some as I was winding, but that let up after use. Good yardage for a generous stole, shawl, or scarf. My project was a Willow cowl, free Ravelry pattern. The result was quite satisfactory.

This is a very soft yarn with subtle color changes, that blend nicely making it not a true solid. I'm using this yarn to make a shawl and it is knitting up beautifully using a size 8 needle, which makes the shawl even more supple and soft, it will be great as a summer shawl.

I bought this yarn to knit the Radiance Shawl, written by Helen Stewart. This yarn is PERFECT for the weight and feel that I wanted to achieve. I am knitting on a size 3 Addi needle, as I like a tighter weave. While I tend to not care for a variegated yarn, the colors in this color wash blend beautifully. I expect my finished project to block out well. I have no complaints about this yarn.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Alpaca Sox Discontinued Colors:

I enjoy knitting with this yarn as it is soft to the touch & the colorways are pleasing to the eye as you knit. The yarn shows distinct plies in the skein but they disappear into the pattern as you knit. They also held their shape well not stretching & getting baggy as they are worn. The finished sock pattern I used had small cables that showed good definition but became somewhat fuzzy after washing. I have machine washed finished socks but after repeated laundering they do begin to felt slightly so I have switched to hand wash in Euclan & air dry. The socks were sturdy & showed no sign of wear in heels or toes without adding a reinforcing thread. However, They were a total loss after my daughter mixed one into a dryer load & it felted. So this would be a good yarn for a lightweight felting project.
I have many skeins in my stash waiting to become socks.
