Wonderland Yarns Cheshire Cat

Wonderland Yarns Cheshire Cat will definitely give you a reason to grin! Cheshire Cat is a 100% superwash merino wool yarn in a fingering weight - that's hand dyed in deeply saturated and gorgeous tonal colors - each with a name from Alice in Wonderland. This yarn would make fantastic shawls, lightweight sweaters or beautifully lacy cowls. Hand dyed and spun in the USA

  • Not Great For Drape

Best Uses

I found one skein of the colorway "Muchness" at my LYS and it was so stunning that I purchased it immediately (right out of the hands of an employee!), and knit my very first shawlette with it. As I'm now on my 14th shawl, and have been using a lot of different and lovely fingering-weight yarns, I still think Cheshire Cat is a special yarn, worthy of any knitter's time.

Muchness is a beautiful royal blue with hints of violet and no one who's seen the finished shawl has not remarked on the color. The Barley Sugar colorway is also incredible, it looks even better knit than in the skein. I've since ordered Looking Glass and Dreamworld and they are equally lovely.

The yardage is wonderful for a one-skein project because you can add a bit to your project if you'd like and you never have to worry about running out at yard 437!

It is, as the other reviewer noted, a lighter weight yarn, though I still consider it well within the realm of fingering weight. There is a beautiful loft to items knitted with this yarn, and it's very soft, but it needs to be blocked more aggressively for Estonian knitting (for example).

It is difficult to capture the colors and the quality of this wool in photos online, but the surprise should be a pleasant one!

Light Sock Weight, Not Fingering Weight

      Best Uses

I bought "Tea Tray" (gray) from my LYS, not WEBS. I am knitting 9 sts. to inch in stockinette stitch, whereas I usually knit 8 to 8-1/2 sts. to inch in other sock weight yarn. I do not think more sts. to inch will be a problem in fitting my feet.
