    Valley Yarns Huntington

Valley Yarns Huntington is a beautiful solid color sock yarn. It is great for colorwork and patterns with more complex stitch work. Valley Yarns Huntington is extremely soft, machine washable and would also make fantastic baby projects. You will probably need two skeins for most sock patterns.  Made in Peru.

I really like this yarn for socks. I have used it in mosaic knitting as well a plain old stripes. I would consider it a light fingering with a medium twist. Some knitters find fault with this, calling it "splitty," but I've not been over-bothered by this quality. It makes the fabric soft and supple. I have always believed a knitter and the yarn are partners in the process rather than the knitter commanding the yarn to submit to personal whim. A softer twist may take patience for some to learn but the relationship is well worth the effort!

I think this yarn is a great value, comes in smaller hanks so I don't have to have a lot left over if I am using more than one colorway in a project, washes and dries very well, softens up after washing, provides sturdy wear, and recovers nicely from frogging and re-knitting.

I tend to knit socks with yarn of this weight at a tighter gauge -- 9 or 10 st/in -- with 2 mm short circular needles. I recommend this yarn and keep it as a basic staple in my stash.

I would really love to see an even wider color palette, even some variegated or tonal yarns in this base.

Very disappointed so far. I couldn't do the basic cable pattern I'd purchased the yarn with intentions of knitting. Then, even though I hold my yarn very loosely, a ply of the yarn broke twice before I'd turned the first heel.

I'd already wound the yarn so can't return it but won't buy more until the reviews indicate these issues have been fixed. Too bad as I've liked the other Valley yarns I've used so far.

I am knitting vine twining lace socks. It is frustrating to have the needkles frequently split the yarn when I'm performing a complex stitch.

        Comments about Valley Yarns Huntington:

I used this yarn held triple to knit myself a Hyannis cardigan. I love the result! The fabric is very soft, light and bouncy, and still very warm. It's the perfect cosy cardigan, thanks to this yarn!
I used the Olive, Dark Olive and Forest colorways; all are pretty. The dark olive and the forest colors are pretty similar in real life, just keep in mind if you're looking for contrasting colors (just pick another one).

Bought this to make Christmas socks for my husband. He's worn them several times and they've been through the wash a bunch and still look/feel great. They are wearing well. I definitely would buy this yarn for more socks in the future.

              Comments about Valley Yarns Huntington:

I really loved working with this yarn. I was afraid it would be itchy, but it's actually very soft to work with and wear. The gauge also makes it perfect for fitted sweaters. It has a nice crisp stitch definition that suites color work. Unfortunatly, it currently has a limited color pallette.

I bought two hanks of the "Natural" color but they had a terrible odor that didn't go away after I knit a swatch and washed it. It smelled kind of bleachy and I didn't even want to handle it, much less make something with it. I was very disappointed because otherwise the yarn seemed nice and perfect for the shawl I wanted to make. I called customer service and the rep was very gracious and helpful, crediting my account for the purchase price. I would try Huntington again but in a different color.
