Spud & Chloë Outer

The bulky weight of Spud & Chloë Outer means it’s the choice for outerwear, but it’s also soft enough to wear next to the skin, so bulky sweaters are a great match. The color palette goes with anything, so you can easily create a fantastic scarf, or even a jacket to keep warm!  Made in Peru.

I love this yarn! It is so plush and feels so good against the skin that I can't stop knitting with it. I think it's best used for items such as hats and scarves that do not need to withstand heavy abrasion because it is lightly spun and will pill. I personally would not make a sweater with it. But for a hat, cowl, or scarf, it is absolute heaven! I've used it for lots of gifts, and every recipient has commented on how fabulous it feels. I recommend washing by hand (or in a machine without agitation) but then drying by machine on a drying rack to allow the cotton to contract. The yarn does stretch when wet, but if it is dried by machine, it bounces back nicely. It is machine washable, but I feel that agitation makes it look pill-y and old too quickly. With care, it can continue to look new.

I so much wanted to love this yarn. After finishing my sweater knitted with the outer, I hand washed it and it shed like crazy! and when dried, it looks like an old sweater. oh, by the way, it's still shedding. Hate to think what happens when machine washed. I won't be knitting with this yarn again.

Comments about Spud & Chlo Outer:

I used this yarn to make a bolero. There were a couple of snags and knots in the yarn, but for the most part it was a dream to work with. I loved how defined the stitches were, and it was super soft to work with. It does have a halo of fibers, most likely from the wool content, but nothing that has presented a problem yet.

        Beautiful Baby Blanket Yarn

Comments about Spud & Chlo Outer:

I used this yarn for a baby blanket. It knit up fast and beautifully. I read the concerns about stretching and pilling so I was worried about machine washing. I used a no-rinse wash, soaked in the washer with no agitation, then spun dry. I dried it on "knit" in the dryer until barely damp, then reshaped and dried flat. It came out fine with very minimal stretching and no piling.

I got this for a baby gift project and it really is amazingly soft. I had never understood what "superwash" does but this does NOT unravel or split or tangle, a joy to work with. The purple color I got is a good strong color, very lovely.

Purchased to knit a baby blanket pattern designed for this yarn to give as a gift. Loved the result until I washed it in the washing machine. Blanket pills terribly and looks almost worn after washing. Not acceptable.
