Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer

The Kangaroo Dyer, our very own Gail Callahan, has done it again! She's created an amazing rainbow of color for our own Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk laceweight yarn. As if the fiber wasn't gorgeous enough, Gail enhances it with her unique sensibility, making the lacy garments created with it truly one of a kind. Soft, airy, and lovely. Yarn made in Peru; hand-dyed in USA.

Very soft, and nice to knit with. However, the two strands are prone to separating.

With just a little patience (the yarn is thin, after all!), one may create the most beautiful, luxurious accessories. I like to crochet shawls/scarves in very open lace patterns, perfect for travel as they are warm (for the air plane) yet elegant enough to double as evening wear accessories. Nothing negative to report.

Very nice drape. Soft silky feel. Vibrant colors. made a lacy long scarf from 1 hank. Would also make a lovely shawl. It was purchased with a gift card from a friend at work - who I gave the scarf to as a surprise.

Comments about Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

This was a dream to work with and came out as a beautiful shawl for a lady in a wheelchair who is allergic to wool. I made one with alpaca and silk but sold her this one with the silk/alpaca combination (much softer).

I'll definitely buy this yarn again. The Kangaroo Dyer did a great job with the variations. It did not stripe like a lot of yarns do - just a gentle variation row after row.

I just started knitting the Tide Pool Stole with this yarn. I'm using the color Seaglass. It knits up beautifully. The dye is very even, no color pooling. The yarn is very soft to touch. This is a fun yarn to work with.

I used this yarn to crochet the Sumac Berry shawl. Beautiful yarn, but I was not happy with the color. I ordered "Red Riding Hood" as shown in the pattern -- I expected more red/less orange. Be aware that this shade is a mix of orange and shades of pink (to my eye, anyway). If you want a true red, look to another shade. Otherwise, very happy with result.
