Valley Yarns
Valley Yarns Berkshire
Valley Yarns Berkshire is a heavy worsted wool/alpaca blend. The fiber combination of this single ply yarn is so soft and it is a dream to knit with. Valley Yarns Berkshire is a great basic yarn at a terrific price. It felts beautifully as well. Made in Peru.

Great Felted Bags
This yarn felts very well, holds its shape and works up quickly. It's my go-to for felted projects.

I knitted a garter stitch and cabled jacket from this about two years ago and it's held up fairly well. As others have noted, it's loosely-spun single-ply, so it does pill significantly. Still, for the price, it's a solid yarn. The finished project is very soft and luxurious-feeling. Reworking cause me fuzzies and quickly-untwisting yarn.

Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
I chose the turquoise color to make the Quilted Diamond Vest for skiing, and it is the deepest, most intense shade of turquoise ever. The yarn is soft and a little fuzzy from the alpaca; the single ply means that it is lofty and thus retains heat well. I did find that the loosely spun ply was easy to snag or split using sharp needles and I'd recommend a more rounded tip needle for faster knitting.

Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
This is actually a really great yarn. Its super soft and light weight and warm all at the same time. I have a little bit of a problem with it coming apart when i was knitting with it, but just keeping an eye and it and twisting it when it looked loose undid that. I use this for every thing that I need to felt

Knitted and felted a hat for my old man, and now his mother wants one too.
Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
Love this yarn. It has a great color selection, it's very easy to knit, and the results looks so beautiful. It feels soft and has a nice feeling on my skin (and I usually have a problem with wool). It also knits pretty fast, so I'm almost finishing a sweater I just started this weekend. I think it's great for children and adults, I'll definitely make more projects with this yarn
Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
This yarn is lovely, indeed. I've made a cardigan with it, and it has held up surprisingly well. I keep waiting for it to pill and shed, but I haven't had any problems yet. As should be expected, the baby alpaca lends a fuzz factor to the finished fabric. However, as noted, there is no shedding or piilling after >10 all-day wearings. I am very happy with this yarn, and will definitely use it for other projects in the future. And what an awesome color palette!

Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
This is lovely, soft yarn, but be aware that it is a single ply that is loosely spun. It's probably better for hats than for mittens as it is already pilling and probably won't take a lot of abuse well. Using rounded-pointed needles will help reduce splitting as you knit. Washing and drying flat did not affect the gauge, but it did flatten the appearance of the cables.
Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:
I knit the grand kids (and everyone) mittens with this yarn~keeps it's shape in the snow and the natural color is perfect for MITT-sicles (mittens dyed with Kool-Aid)
