I am making a series of neck warmers as gifts. The pattern calls for sport weight, which I hadn't really used too much prior to this project. I have been delighted with the elegant appearance of the heathers and also the warmth of this yarn. Having usually used worsted weight, the warmth of this weight wool has surprised and delighted me.

I don't normally use sport weight yarns, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. But if you like Cascade 220, and just need a lighter weight for a specific project, you'll like this. Like its worsted namesake, it's a good value, a very servicable yarn for items that don't require frequent wahing (unless you just like hand-washing -- I don't). I'd prefer a superwash variant of it for most things I suspect.

I haven't used it in any felted projects to date, but have used other Cascade wool for such things and always been pleased with the results. This yarn would yield a felted fabric not quite so heavy, which might make it even more suitable for some items.

The project I bought this for used 2 strands held together, and the "sturdiness" (for lack of a better word) that gives it its stitch definition made the job of workign with 2 strands much easier than some yarns I've used this way. It also has less of a tendency to come untwisted than other similar yarns I've used. It also seems to be less prone to splitting or shedding than even the worsted Cascade 220.

This is not a "luxury" yarn by any measure, but will give you good results even if you're a relative novice. Overall a very serviceable yarn for knitters of all skill levels.

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Sport:

I'm using this to knit a rectangular lace wrap. The stitch definition is wonderful, and I can't wait until I'm finished and can block it to see the lace stretch out a bit and show the great pattern.

I was disappointed that the yarn came in the mail as a hank and I had to wind it by hand. I will think twice before I order through the mail again.

      Definitely NOT DK-Weight

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Sport:

Overall, after blocking, this is a nice Peruvian wool. It doesn't play nicely with K1P1 ribbing -- K2P2 or more is better. And it is definitely NOT a DK-weight yarn; it's a sport weight. I wouldn't' recommend next-to-the-skin garments due to its coarse nature unless you use Eucalan to block/dry first. But for pullovers and such (possibly worn over a shirt) it has great body and drape when worked with size 2-5 needles. It gets sloppy with size 6.

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Sport:

I am using a pattern that calls for sport weight yarn, and since I have been pleased with worsted weight yarns by Cascade and I liked the color selection, I decided to try Cascade 220 sport. I have been so pleased with the way this knits up because it is so soft and warm even though it is a lighter weight than worsted. I have found the same qualities in Cascade 220 sport weight yarn as the Cascade 220 worsted weight yarns I have used - softness in finished product, ease in knitting and ripping, delicious colors. The heathers are particularly nice.

Never liked it before, but it was the recommended yarn. Needless to say--I will not be a return customer. Lesson learned--after 72 inches of knitting in a scarf, and spending $45 on yarn, the red bled onto the white.

Never liked the company before, will never purchase from it again.
