Classic Elite Yarns Firefly

Classic Elite Firefly is unique in the best way, with a slightly slubby but soft texture and a beautiful, glowing sheen. The drape on Firefly is incredible too. Firefly looks fantastic worked up into cool, sophisticated summer tops and dresses. Made in Italy.

I recommend avoiding the Sour Apple color of this yarn. After I washed my sweater in 1 level teaspoon of Soak and cold water, blue streaks appeared throughout the garment and the side of the sweater that was against the blocking mat was a completely different shade than the side that was exposed to air. At the suggestion of my LYS, I washed the sweater a second time and dried it with the opposite side down only to have the same thing happen again. The only difference with the second washing was that the water turned blue whereas no dye leached into the water the first time I washed it. Thanks to the friendly folks on Ravelry, I've learned that linen tends to be unstable and it appears what's happening is that the blue and yellow dyes are separating and the dye is migrating. This sweater was knit in the round and all skeins came from the same dyelot.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Firefly:

I bought Firefly to make a sweater but then used it for a shawl doubling it with Pirouette mohair. I love the color choices in Firefly, like the yardage and the way it feels as I work with it but I don't think I'll make the sweater with it after all because I prefer more body. It worked up really well for the shawl and it's a lovely yarn.

I used this for a Classic Elite sweater pattern. The pattern was fine but I tried three different needles and had trouble with the yarn being very splitty if I didn't watch it like a hawk. I found it coarse as I worked with it but it softened up quite a bit after being washed.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Firefly:

Knitted a wonderful short sleeve sweater with lace edging. Knitted well and stitches were beautiful. After rinsing in cold water, the dye bled horribly. Hung it to dry and the color ran on a towel and once dry the sweater looked tie dyed!!! I was horrified!!! I had a partial ball left and purposefully ran it in hot water to bleed it and try to redye the sweater. It worked, but I'm afraid only temporarily. It is now instead of striped, it's blotchy. Not as noticable and I did wear it to the office. I've gotten several good comments, so hopefully not a total loss. I will not purchase this yarn again. all skeins came from the same dye lot.

I liked this yarn. The texture is soft, slightly shiny, but splits a bit and also fluffy. I think it will leave pile on the underneath garment... I am going to crochet it and a sample I made looks promising.
