Classic Elite Yarns Verde Collection Woodland

The latest addition to Classic Elite’s Verde Collection, Woodland contains nettles, which is a fiber similar to flax or hemp, but more environmentally friendly as it can be grown in any soil condition and requires minimal use of chemicals. Combined with wool, the two fibers take color differently, creating a stunning effect.  Made in Italy.

I made a sweater with this yarn and regretted the choice pretty quickly. I've never had such trouble casting on, with the yarn constantly twisting. In the end, I casted on with much larger needles and pulled the yarn very tight. The sweater came out with a rustic look, since every stitch that isn't exactly like the others looks really obvious, and there were a few spots where the yarn got thicker or thinner. I also find it pretty itchy on my skin, so will have to wear something under the pullover sweater.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Verde Collection Woodland:

I am knitting the Owl Cardigan from The Unofficial Harry Potter Knits magazine. So far the only problems have been areas of inconsistent thickness and some splitting. Otherwise I am enjoying knitting with this yarn. The sweater is looking beautiful and my daughter is looking forward to wearing it in the fall.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Verde Collection Woodland:

Overall, I like the color and the weight. My main complaint is that the yarn twist is inconsistent. Some of it is wound too tight, and other parts are wound too loose - so the yarn fluctuates between being too thick and then being too thin. I'm constantly twisting the yarn manually as I knit in an effort to keep the yarn at a consistent thickness.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Verde Collection Woodland:

I really love this yarn and it's knitting up beautifully. It has great stitch definition and is silky smooth from the lovely mixture of nettles and wool. But it also has a light halo! I'm making Ginny's Cardigan by Mari Chiba and it's awesome! I would caution that if you're a beginner, take care. Ripping out could be hard and the yarn is splitty if you have a tight guage.

Comments about Classic Elite Yarns Verde Collection Woodland:

This yarn is lovely! Very soft and light, and the different fibers take the dye differently so it gives it a lovely depth of color, and in the case of the charcoal shade I got, at least, a glow and little bit of shine. I am making a sweater with a cable and the cables are popping very well and looking great!

The only down I can find is that the yarn is a single, and splits easily. But it doesn't seem like it is going to pill alot (certainly it hasn't shown any signs of pilling even though I've been working on a large piece and I was watching for pilling as I worked), probably due to the nettle fiber.

I recommend this yarn, give it a try!

            Service and delivery comments:

As usual, I got a good price and received by yarn sooner than expected. Thanks Webs!

I bought this for a craftsy class on double knitting and turned around and bought more! It's a great fiber at a great price. The nettle takes the dye differently, so the colors have amazing depth and are slightly muted. It is a "sticky" wool, so it is perfect for brioche as well as any other knitting project!

I made a shawl using the Classic Elite pattern shown online. It had a complicated stitch (Indian Stitch) which showed very nicely with this yard. On wearing it I thought that it was a bit scratch on the neck. I'd like to know how the nettles are processed. I know that bamboo processing is anything but "eco-friendly".
