I used four colors of it for the multicolored stripes in a sweater for myself, plus another six or so colors in a hat. It was delightful to knit -- soft, non-splitty, non-twisty -- and it washed and dried beautifully in the machine. I washed a large swatch first before I started the sweater and was amazed that it came out of the dryer (I set it at medium but my dryer is HOT) looking exactly like it went into the washer. The same was true of the sweater when I ran it through the washer (warm wash, cool rinse, normal cycle) and dryer at the end of winter. I cannot say enough good things about this yarn.

This is the most disappointing yarn I've used in 50 years of knitting. The color was just what I wanted; knitting with the yarn was very pleasant. I completed a very complicated sweater and was excited to clean and wear it. At the very first -- very careful -- washing, the yarn pilled horribly; I have sweaters that are ten years old that aren't such a mess. I've worn the sweater one time, and it proceeded to shed all over my slacks and turtleneck. I was a mess within an hour. I won't ever wear the sweater again; I'm not sure it's is worth giving to Goodwill. Don't waste your time or money on this yarn. (I have given it one star because the system won't let me submit the review without a star...hmmmph.)

Made a tunic top. The stitches knitted up very evenly, there were no thin or thick spots. I did find any knots in the 6 balls I used. Actually made my hands feel good while knitting because it was so soft but not a soft that makes it flimzy. It makes a beautiful finished product.

Im making a cowl with this yarn.It is soft and has a good stretch to it, which helps longevity of item when people are pulling it over their heads.I think to make a sweater would be flirting with snags on everything as the twist is really loose.

I am using this yarn for an adult cardigan sweater.
I really like this yarn...only issue is a couple of knotted ends. I just cut them out and join like a new ball of yarn. Annoying, but not a showstopper.

I needed a large color selection for a blanket and this yarn worked out wonderful.Great price.I bought it on sale and I'm very happy with the result.I would buy it again for similar projects. It had some knots but not enough to complain about. I recommend washing your project after finishing as it relaxes the stitches and becomes even softer.

Comments about Valley Yarns Valley Superwash DK:

I was reluctant to purchase yarn online because the project I am working on is a very special gift and I designed the pattern for the sweater myself. I was also a little concerned about the price...it seemed really low for Merino wool. BUT...the yarn arrived quickly, the color is pretty true to the color sample provided on the website, and this is the best yarn I have ever used. There is absolutely no splitting or tangling. It knits up beautifully. My only problem is that as good as I am in math, I really didn't know how much to buy. These balls look small but I have been able to use two per sleeve which leaves me 8 for the front and back. I think I have enough to finish but I won't know for awhile. The website may have had a chart to go by but I just winged it based upon yarn weight, gauge, etc. That's on me, not you. I will definitely buy again!

When I returned to knitting after 30 years I started with what I thought was inexpensive acrylic wool from a local store. This wool was recommended to me for my first real project - a baby blanket. I love the way it knits up. It is so soft, not scratchy, washing machinable and comes in a good variety of colors. It has enough give to block well. I am trying to convert all my projects to this yarn.
