Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy

Hemp is an incredible plant fiber that is valued for its strength and durability. It won’t wear out - instead, it will wear in - getting better with age. It will retain color better than any other fiber, including cotton, due to its porous nature which also allows the fiber to breathe. Blended with cotton and modal, Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy is a slightly textured yarn that is a WEBS favorite. Made in Italy.

Have made a couple of top-down summer sweaters with this lovely drapey yarn: Heliotropic Pullover by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark and Buttercup by Heidi Kirrmaier. Lovely yarn for both patterns. Knits quickly and the resulting drape is hard to beat. Only con would be repeated knots per skein. Didn't experience that in every skein, but the last four of the 16 skeins purchased.

I was tempted by hemp content of this yarn, and wanted to try it for my summer top. The yarn is of DK weight and it does not knit fast. I had really hard time when end piece of the yarn "escaped" the skein, and I ended up with very tangled yarn. I had to cut the yarn since I was not successful untangling it. I won't be buying this yarn anymore, and will go for 100% linen yarn next time - it just feels much better in the finished product.

    Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

I can't say enough about this yarn; it has turned into summer tops for me; baby dresses and bonnets, you name it. It seems a little scratchy in the ball but even as you work with it; it softens up. Blocks beautifully with great stitch definition, Can't do better than this with color selection either.

The color was just what I was expecting, bright and intense spring green.

              Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

I used this yarn for a summer tunic. The pattern was loose fitting at the bottom and this yarn was perfect for the drape and flow of the pattern. I have used this yarn before for a vest that had shaping and that also turned out nicely. I like natural fibers and have found many of the cotton yarns will leave a fuzz all over you. This yarn is nice and you have none of that problem with it. I also like the durability of hemp.

I heard women at my LYS rave about Hempathy, ie., how great it is to knit with and how it softens up with washing and wear. When Webs had its anniversary sale, I bought it in different colorways to make myself cardigans. I'm still working on my first Hempathy cardigan but I can say it's really fun to knit with. I also just finished weaving my second scarf ever - Hempathy for the warp and a cotton/ linen variegated yarn for the weft. Love it!

Love how Hempathy knits up - close to Sportweight on US#4, a great all-around summer yarn choice for tops, tees and sweaters in place of linen or cotton. It is easier on the hands than 100% linen or cotton. Very nice colors available too. Hope this yarn sticks around.

The vibrant beautiful colors make this an outstanding sweater. I chose to try it for a warm weather baby sweater & friends are raving. It's still to be worn by a baby so we'll see. It is softening a lot after just 2 hand washings. I love this yarn. I will try it for socks.
