Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy

Hemp is an incredible plant fiber that is valued for its strength and durability. Hemp won’t wear out, rather it will wear in—getting better with age. It will retain color better than any other fiber, including cotton due to its porous nature, which also allows the fiber to breath. Blended with cotton and modal, Hempathy is a slightly textured yarn that is a WEBS favorite. Made in Italy.

Have made a couple of top-down summer sweaters with this lovely drapey yarn: Heliotropic Pullover by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark and Buttercup by Heidi Kirrmaier. Lovely yarn for both patterns. Knits quickly and the resulting drape is hard to beat. Only con would be repeated knots per skein. Didn't experience that in every skein, but the last four of the 16 skeins purchased.

I am using this yarn to knit Heidi Kirmaier's "Buttercup". I like the pattern, but the yarn does show some uneven stitches in my knitting. It is also very "splitty" so I have to watch my stitches as I am knitting. I do like the texture of the yarn.

the tunic to be dress pattern for which this yarn is specified is going to need a slip or lining. Despite 3mm needles, it's rather holey fabric. The swatch looks like it will have a nice drape, but it's so thin.

I made the Bias Lace Shell by Lisa R. Myers (knit.wear Spring 2012) and love the way that it turned out. The stitch definition was terrific and the fabric had a lovely drape - the slightly rustic texture made it really interesting. This was my first time knitting with hemp - it was softer than expected but I definitely noticed that it's slower going than wool. Elsebeth Lavold's yarns always come in beautiful colors, and this was no exception.

I was hesitant to buy this yarn, but I wanted to try a new fiber. I love the heathered color of the yarn, and the texture. I'm making a summer-weight cardigan, and I was pleasantly surprised at the drape of the fabric. I will definitely use this yarn again.

                    Service and delivery comments:

My order came promptly, and in great condition.
I needed to contact customer service because I didn't order enough yarn. I requested the same dyelot, if possible, and they came through. I very much appreciate the quality of the employees at WEBS.

Used this for a test knit. At first, I didn't like the coarseness of the plant fibers, but after washing and drying, the yarn bloomed wonderfully and softened up a bit. Was drying on my fingers as I was knitting, but otherwise was a great yarn.
