This is a follow-up to my review to add images. Finished projects and I am still loving this yarn. Used size 10 needles (byrspun straight & addi circular). The variation in color saturation is noticeable in each hank, so would not recommend for project where this matters (thought it added "character" to my scarves). Cowl is Lepidoptra adn Scarf is graphite (color much darker than show in product detail)

This yarn is tightly spun and doesn't split. The colors are all they are hyped to be--glowing with a depth not often seen, the small variations making a fabric that holds the attention. The yarn has a sure, easy feel during the working. I could have, and sometimes did, work in the dark. I agree with other reviewers about the weight: it seems more like heavy worsted than chunky. In fact, WEBS lists it in their heavy worsted section also.

I would have given 5 stars, but took one off because one hank had cut places in it. That's the stuff of cheapo, dollar a pound yarn, not premier wool of this price. I had the aggravation of several unplanned splices in mid-row.

I sawed off another star because--also noted in another review--it has a chemical smell, probably from the dye. I wonder if other Colorway yarns have this same odor. I expect it to leave after a wash or two, but to smell it during the stiching is, well, one shouldn't have to.

The yarn was for a self-designed smoking jacket done in Harris Tweed stitch on no. 9 bamboo needles, with letters rf and back. The knit-on bands and collar, and the sash are in seed stitch. I used Tart for MC, and Whiskey Barrel for CC. Overall, I'm pleased with the result and would, with the two chancy caveats above, recommend this brand. But it seems more like a specialty product, best suited for certain types of projects than for general purpose.

        Comments about Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky:

This yarn is gorgeous. Very bulky, soft, and squishy. I made my husband a hat out of it after he decided the first one I made him wasn't warm enough. I figured bulky wool would be better, and it was. He LOVES the hat. The colorway is beautiful, with varied shades throughout. The only downside, and this is probably just wool in general, is that the hat is getting fuzzy now that he's used it a bunch of times. Hopefully it lasts more than one season!

                            Comments about Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky:

I have always been VERY passionate about Madelinetosh. They have the softest yarns and most beautiful colorways I've ever knit with. Until today, I thought they were always supperior in every way. I purchased the chunky, "robins breast" red color and was dissapointed that the red color didn't take to the yarn as I'd expect it to. I'm unable to knit a bobble pattern with it, because when I twist the yarn, some of the off white undyed color between the plies shows through... this is very disappointing to me, since I've never experienced this before. I will have to send the yarn back and request a credit from Webs now since it will not perform as expected.
I'm sad to give this review only 3 stars, as I have always loved Madelinetosh and hope to strike up the affair again someday.

I have been having difficulty finding 4.0 gauge wool and most of my sweater patterns call for that gauge. Was so happy to find Madeline Tosh Chunky was 4.0 gauge. I can't wait to finish remodeling my house so I can knit again.

This is a stunning yarn, usually, that does things with color I have never seen anywhere else. Subtle, shaded, inventive combinations, flecked and almost sprayed at times, subtly blended at others, with a glazed sheen that makes the colors glow with an almost inner luminescence. I love this yarn. I crave it. Hence my bitter disappointment when I order a color I have cherished and luxuriated in in the past only to find the new version muddy, dull or monochrome. This is a tough yarn to order online, but hard to find any other way in any amount. Its worth the risk of the occasional dud to have the sensual pleasure of the best. Try your fair isle and intarsia in this yarn and watch it turn to sheer magic. It is too busy to show off cablework
