Amherst is my go-to merino worsted. It is super soft and cushy feeling, with not a bit of "itch". I'm surprised that some reviewers consider Amherst a light-bodied worsted. I admit to using more fingering and DK weight yarns than worsted weight, but I consider Amherst to be more full-bodied than most worsteds I have used. I use size 7 needles for hats, sweaters and toys and get nice, even closely packed stitches.

Don't know why they put the last one out four times . . . Yarn is NOT heavy worsted. A better idea of the gauge is 5 st to 1" on a US size 7, 4.5 mm in stockinette. As I knit loosely, you might ge this with a size 8.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I wish the skeins were double the length as I knit
my 48 x 60" inch afghan. Lots of ends to thread in.
Not sure 19 skeins enough to reach 60". Love this yarn feel and look.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I made "Steggie" on Ravelry with the yarn for my son. It's soft and comfy which is exactly what he needed (he wouldn't anything scratchy or coarse). However, after one day of wear it started pilling and just got worse. He doesn't mind, but I wouldn't use the yarn for an adult garment, or actually, for other garments, the pilling is pretty bad. It's a shame, though, because it is so very soft.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I made a toddler sweater with this yarn and it came out beautifully! It's very soft and the fabric has good stitch definition as well as a nice springiness and loft. It will be great for layering over long-sleeve Ts and under rain coats and windbreakers.
I'll be buying more of this yarn. Highly recommend for cozy sweaters without too much weight or bulk.

I made a hat out of this lovely yarn for my hubs cousin and he loves it! Not only is it soft, it washes like a dream with no shrinkage, and stands up to the cold North Dakota winters very very well.

I liked the yarn, but a little too fuzzy for the lacy sweater pattern I used it for.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I will definitely use this yarn a lot. I'm thinking of making a sweater with it, but I'm a little worried about the report of pilling. No sign of this with the projects I've completed, but then again, they haven't been worn.
