Beautiful yarn

I love this yarn! Nice weight, pretty colors, doesn't pill. So far I've only knit it in stockinette but I've seen it used for cables and it's gorgeous. Heirloom quality.

The packaging, speed of delivery were excellent; I quickly started my intended scarf, and within 30 yard came upon about ten yards of badly spun yarn (thick and thin), knotted ends; it happened again later, at which time I gave up.I might use such a yarn in a sweater (but in more hidden areas, like under the arm), but not in a scarf. The yearn itself was nice and soft to the touch and WOULD have been nice in a scarf. The other problem was this: I was not happy with the color of the yarn. All I can recall right now is that the color had a name like 'Stormy Skies',or similar, and I expected a light gray; also on my computer screen it appeared as grey. It actually was a pale blue and did not look too well with the greens I intended to use in the pattern. Since I already had wound the yearn into balls, I thought it was too late to return it. So, no scarf, the yarn has joined my mountain of stash, and I will use it sometime in small amounts, where it will fit with the other colors

But I did want to express my opinion, since I have always thought of Louet as a very good company.I have lusted after their spinning wheels, but had no experience with their yarn.

    Comments about Louet Gems Sport:

I doubled this yarn to make a full-body playsuit for my toddler grandson. The garment has remained in good shape through much hard wear and many washings. I have knitted the same garment for the same kid using other yarns, and there is no doubt that Louet Gems is the best of them all for hard use and repeated washing.

      Comments about Louet Gems Sport:

I have used Louet Gems fingering weight yarn for years; it is a very thin yarn. Gems sport is a thin sport yarn, and I use it as a "heavyweight" fingering yarn. It produces very nice compact stitches on size 3 needles; I can see through the loose stitches knit with size 4 needles. That said, the yarn produces a lusciously soft, supple knit. Color range is generous, although I'd like it to be expanded. I have used eggplant and brick red thus far; both are lovely. 100 Gm. skeins are a big plus for me; I hesitate to buy 50 Gm. skeins any more. I wouldn't dream of machine washing a hand knit, so I can't vouch for how it stands up under machine washing. It hand washes easily and beautifully with a rinseless product made for wool, and thus far there has been minimal pilling. But it's merino, and merino pills. So does cashmere. If it were listed as fingering eight yarn, I'd give it five stars. I treat it as fingering weight, so it's perfect for me.

I'm using this yarn for a sweater for myself. I'll hand wash even though it's a machine-washable yarn. It shows stitch definition very well and the colors are deep and rich.

              Comments about Louet Gems Sport:

Bought this yarn for a requested remake of a sweater made many years ago. It calls for sport weight which is not as common as it was years ago. The first color my daughter chose was "Grey Skies"-- not a grey, a real baby blue. Heron grey is a true grey. The cobalt blue is a deep, beautiful shade.

I used this ayrn to knit 8 Christmas stockings and each one was more beautiful than the last. They were all 2-color, stranded work, and I couldn't find enough red, so branched out and was very pleased with the amazing color selection.

Great yarn for spring/summer sweaters; I've made 2 and plan to make more. This yarn is evenly spun, has no knots, knits well, holds up to multiple frogging, blocks nicely, and is next-to-skin soft. Colors don't run in multi-color projects. Highly recommend.
