Valley Yarns Huntington

Valley Yarns Huntington is a beautiful solid color sock yarn. It is great for colorwork and patterns with more complex stitch work. Valley Yarns Huntington is extremely soft, machine washable and would also make fantastic baby projects. You will probably need two skeins for most sock patterns.  Made in Peru.

I really like this yarn for socks. I have used it in mosaic knitting as well a plain old stripes. I would consider it a light fingering with a medium twist. Some knitters find fault with this, calling it "splitty," but I've not been over-bothered by this quality. It makes the fabric soft and supple. I have always believed a knitter and the yarn are partners in the process rather than the knitter commanding the yarn to submit to personal whim. A softer twist may take patience for some to learn but the relationship is well worth the effort!

I think this yarn is a great value, comes in smaller hanks so I don't have to have a lot left over if I am using more than one colorway in a project, washes and dries very well, softens up after washing, provides sturdy wear, and recovers nicely from frogging and re-knitting.

I tend to knit socks with yarn of this weight at a tighter gauge -- 9 or 10 st/in -- with 2 mm short circular needles. I recommend this yarn and keep it as a basic staple in my stash.

I would really love to see an even wider color palette, even some variegated or tonal yarns in this base.

Very disappointed so far. I couldn't do the basic cable pattern I'd purchased the yarn with intentions of knitting. Then, even though I hold my yarn very loosely, a ply of the yarn broke twice before I'd turned the first heel.

I'd already wound the yarn so can't return it but won't buy more until the reviews indicate these issues have been fixed. Too bad as I've liked the other Valley yarns I've used so far.

I ordered this to make a Norwegian colorwork sweater. (I made one last fall with a differnet yarn which felted when washed - long story - and which my daughter then inherited.) However, due to a bad experience with yarn in skeins which were so tangled that I had to cut the yarn in several places when winding it, I decided to return this entire yarn order. I have a big mental note not to purchase skeins, only balls of yarn to avoid the tangles.

                      Comments about Valley Yarns Huntington:

Yarn colors are even and rich, hope WEBS keeps adding more. I'm knitting mostly solid-colored socks at the moment but I look forward to using Huntington in stranded color work for projects in queue. Yarn works up nicely on different size needles depending on project, more open for scarves and cowls on larger needles, nice and dense for socks on 2.00mm and 2.25 or 2.50mm, my usual sock size needles. Yarn can be a tad splitty but not so much that it stops the flow: I just had to remind myself to be alert when doing SSK's or knitting through the back side of stitches where I couldn't see where the needle point was going. That's probably me more than the yarn, though!

I keep going back to this yarn for lightweight lace knit hats. Huntington comes in wonderful color options and it's softness can't be beat. I love this yarn. I cannot wait to use it for a knit or crocheted shawl. It twists a little while working when wound up into a ball but that's alright. It gives fabulous stitch definition, and its great quality at an unbeatable price. "Mustard" is a fabulous muted yellow that even I love (and I don't like yellow) and I can't stop buying it. I recommend this yarn to any "squidgy sock yarn" lovers.
