Wasn't initially sure about this yarn, but wanted a nice bulky yarn to make heavy hats, scarves and mittens for the coldest days here in New England. Since my first purchase a couple of months ago, I've been back three more times to order or pick up more. Wish it were priced a bit lower, but that can be said of many yarns I'd like to buy more of. Overall I'd give this yarn 4.5 stars, only missing a 5 star rating due to the very limited problem noted below. It does shed some, but not nearly as bad as several other yarns I've used or as much as I would expected after reading some other reviews.
The yarn feel is very soft and squishy in the hand. With the first few colors I worked with I had no problem with splitting, but when I purchased the purple color this changed. Not sure if this was an aberration, but that's the only color I've had a splitting problem with so far. With this minor exception the yarn has been a dream to work with and I have been very happy with the appearance and feel of all my finished products made with this yarn. That being said, the resulting product, though soft in the hand, can feel scratchy against the skin - especially the neck. It's a trade off I'm willing to make when the days are cold and the wind is blowing, but I'd be very hesitant to gift any product meant to be worn against the skin to children or those who might be sensitive to wool. I would like to make a jacket or heavy cardigan out if this yarn, but honestly am hesitant as a novice to make such a large investment. Otherwise, I highly recommend this yarn for heavy, very warm products that will be carefully cared for.

Enjoyed the thick even texture of this wool. I used a sweater pattern I'd used with other yarn, but got the best results this time. And it's a comfortable wool to wear.

Comments about Cascade Yarns Magnum:
The only thing I was dissapointed with was that it wasn't a solid color, my mistake should have looked at picture better to see that "heathers" have other colors mixed in. Still got a beautiful result and looked like a solid color in the end.
