Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Discontinued Colors:

I was pleasantly surprised when I got this yarn. It is beautiful. The texture is soft but not too soft. I am making a cardigan and it is going along fast. The yarn is easy to knit with, rips well, did not shread at all, even after ripping 3 times. I have not washed it yet, but did wet the gauge sample and it dried perfect. The gauge on the package is perfect, at least for me. I can't say enough good about this yarn and I definitely have a new favorite.

Yarn handles very easily on needle, glides well, feels soft next to skin. I knitted a cabled sweater and the pattern shows up really well. I would buy this yarn again in a heart-beat.

Great price on a very nice go-to yarn

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Discontinued Colors:

I try to avoid offshoring my yarn manufacturers...but needed some yarn for give-away projects, so thought I'd pick some of this up in the Rainier Heather color. It actually looks more like Rainier Rocks as viewed from White Pass on a midsummer afternoon in the sun--there's an earthy quality to the heathering, achieved by scarlet fibers mixed in with the deep purple ones. Quite nice.

As others have mentioned, this is a lighter weight yarn despite being 220 yards per 100 g. I've never considered Cascade 220 to be worsted weight--more like DK, and I work with a hook of 3-3.5 mm, more like sport weight. The stitch definition is marvelous owing to that denser/thinner twist, and I use a light hand re: tension.

I should mention that I'm a completely punk/freeform/improv crocheter. If by contrast you are working from a pattern, you may have to adjust needle/hook size and your tension to get the right gauge for it.

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Discontinued Colors:

this yarn is great for color work and stitch definition. I use it for hats for charity since it is a super wash wool, which is required, its soft, and it works great.

however, it is billed as worsted, and I find it to be only light worsted. somewhere between worsted and DK.

also- beware when using white. other colors might bleed into it when washed.

It's a lovely wool, but it's a little on the thin side for worsted. Even with size 10 needles I can't get 4 st/inch. It will work well for something with 6-7 st/inch and should be thought of more as DK or light worsted.

I love the Cascade 220 superwash. I've used it on a variety of projects and it has held up during frogging and for finished projects during washing. I've used it for hats, baby projects, and a holiday stocking and it is very soft with great stitch definition. I haven't knit a sweater or afghan with it (yet!) but I am looking forward to knitting my first colorwork sweater using this yarn and plan to purchase more in the future.
