I bought this to knit an Aran style sweater for my son. I knitted an Alice Starmore pattern, and I absolutely loved the way that this yarn held the cables. Given that this was the first project of this scope that I have done, there was, needless to say, some frogging that occurred. This disturbed the yarn not at all. The finished product has a nice snugly weight, and is soft enough to be worn against bare skin. I am in love. It will knit into an heirloom item, and it will make almost any knitted item a work of art. When knitted, it is almost as soft as cashmere.

I just finished a cardigan with this yarn. I love the yarn and color and I am sad that the dye bleeds so much. My project used the marine color and charcoal color and both contain indigo in their dye formulas. My hands turned VERY blue. There is a disclaimer on the label saying that everything was done to minimize the bleeding indigo issue and that you can just wash your hands in soap and water... This should not happen in such an extreme way with a high quality yarn like this. I am afraid that it will rub off on my clothes or the back of my neck might turn blue when I wear my beautiful new sweater. My hands had turned blue from just knitting the gauge swatch so I soaked all of my skeins in a vinegar and cold water bath before knitting, but I still had a lot of color bleeding while knitting.

I love the yarn and color so much that I finished my sweater anyway and I will see what happens when I wear it. I imagine that colors that do not contain indigo dye will not have this problem.

I really hope that Swan Island will figure out what they need to do to eliminate or at least greatly reduce this bleeding issue on the beautiful blue colors. I would use this yarn again and again if it didn't bleed.

I knew when I got this yarn that it was hand dyed and that it needed to be washed before wearing. It washed up beautifully and most of the residual dye was removed. It is such a beautiful color I would buy it again.

              Comments about Swans Island Worsted:

Once completed, I can't believe how light the sweater is. This yarn was a joy to knit with. Made Charlotte Cardigan pattern also from Swan's Island. Made blue in XL and now garnet in XS. Garnet color is luscious. Yarn requirements for XL long-sleeve VERY over-generous. Could have bought one and perhsps two fewer skeins.

                Comments about Swans Island Worsted:

Beautiful soft merino yarn. The only caveat is that the blue is dyed with real indigo and stains fingers and will likely bleed--I didn't realize this when I bought the yarn.

I made my son a gorgeous scarf with this yarn. Nice yarn to work with and the finished product looked great. However, after TWO wearings, the scarf has pilled beyond belief. I guess considering the price of this particular yarn, I expected more. I will not purchase it again.

P.S. I wish I really could edit my "pros" .. the edit feature does not seem to work!!!

I'm making the Sullivan St Cardigan and ordered the yarn on line in the Natural Colors. I'm using Lupine which is a warm muted blue/deep purple- gorgeous! It's a dream to work with- soft & glides off the needles- plies don't separate. I can't think of anything negative to say- an exception find- will definitely use again & again

I love the deep purples, blues and reds of this yarn! My hands get stained blue after a few a few minutes of knitting but comes off quickly when I was my hands. Knits up nicely, I'm working on the Katherine Pullover and the lace pattern is easy to see with the dark color.
