A slouchy beret worked in a two colour star stitch pattern with a simple ribbed band. The crown shaping continues the star theme with paired decreases worked in along five stocking stitch ribs that come together in a central starburst. Shown in a beautifully soft baby llama yarn that creates a lovely drape and softly blended colours. It could also be worked in a single colour to emphasise the lacey, textured stitch pattern. Both written and charted directions are provided so that you can work from the form you prefer or a combination of both.
MC - 75m / 82 yards worsted weight yarn.
CC - 75m / 82 yards worsted weight yarn.
I used Mirasol Miski in shade 106 for the main colour
and shade 104 for the contrast.
Alternatively use a single colour and ignore directions
to switch colours.
3.75mm 40cm / 16” circular needle.
4.5mm (or size needed to obtain correct gauge) 40cm
/ 16” circular needle.
4.5mm set of 4 or 5 double pointed needles or needles
required for your preferred method of working small
circumferences in the round.
5 stitch markers. While working the first section of
the star stitch pattern before beginning the decreases
the position of the beginning of the round will change
in order to maintain the integrity of the stitch pattern.
1 split ring marker that can be easily moved will make
18 sts and 28 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in star stitch
16 sts and 24 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch
using 4.5mm needles (stocking stitch gauge given to
make yarn substitution easier).
