Imperial Yarn Shepherdess Bag PDF
Simple to make, this 2-color felted purse with its stylish handles and button will be certain to enhance your wardrobe. Colors reverse on the back. 100% Columbia wool from the Imperial Stock Ranch makes the felting easy!
Finished Measurements (before felting): About 15” wide before decreases begin, 12” after decreases are completed x about 19” long, not including hem.
- Imperial Yarn Columbia 2 ply yarn (100% wool), Main Color, 1 skein. Contrast color, 1 skein. Colors shown: Kingfisher Blue (MC), Spring Sage (CC).
- US size 10 1/2 (6.5 mm).
- Purse Handles
- Large decorative button
- Notions: Crochet hook size K/10-1/2 (6.5 mm); 2 split ring stitch markers, or knitter’s pins to use as markers; tapestry needle; sewing needle and thread to attach button; sharp darning needle with large eye to sew hem and tab after felting; long sewing pins with colored heads.
Gauge (before felting): 14 sts and 20 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st.
1: St st will normally shrink more in length than in width, so don’t shortchange the number of rows you work. If you find you’re not working to row gauge, adjust the number of rows in both sections (before and after decreases) if you want the bag to be the same length as the project, after felting.
2: The bag will use 2 separate yarn sources for the outside panels. In other words, don’t strand the yarn across the contrast color. Wind the yarn into center-pull balls so you can use one end from the center when working one outside panel, and one end from the outside of the ball for the other outside panel. The center panel is worked in the second color.
