Alpaca & Llama
Ashland Bay Fine Count Alpaca Top
Fine micron count alpaca fiber, prized for its softness, warmth and luster, is available in several natural colors. With both durability and low elasticity, this fiber can create a wide variety of yarns of superior drape and insulative capacity. It is sometimes said to be warmer than wool.
Note: The Fawn color varies from solid to heathered depending on the production run that we have in stock.

Beautifully prepared alpaca top in roving form. spun well however it does have a tendency to slip past itself when spinning, so maybe not a great fiber to start with as a beginner but a wonderful product for anyone who wants to break out of wool.

Spinning heaven! I'm spinning with a top whorl, featherweight spindle, aiming to get a fine 2ply lace, and the fibre just glides. No need to pre-draft - actually would rather not, as the top is very loose and the fibres just float away. I just separate a 6-8in piece, and spin away. The black is not actually black but a very dark chocolate - beautiful (just be aware that is not true black). I'm order a few ounces more of all colours!

My first time spinning with alpaca. This stuff is lighter than air and so incredibly soft. My only complaint is that I overdrafted and it kept breaking. But that's my fault, not the fiber's. I loved it!
