Ashland Bay Falkland Wool Top

Ashland Bay Falkland Wool Top is micron 26, staple length 4-6 inches, 100-115 mm. The base flock of this soft, sustainable wool is Corridale, Polwarth and Dohne Merino. These breeds were developed for dual purpose meat and wool production and are selectively bred for the ability to survive in the harsh climate of the Falkland Islands. The upside of the harsh climate is that insects and disease are not a problem, so Falkland Wool Top is very low in or free of chemicals.

Note: Fiber ordered by the ounce may have its quantity adjusted before shipping to reflect its actual net weight.

As a novice drop spinner, I like this top because it holds together well and doesn't break when I'm spinning (or stop abruptly). The draft is long enough to give me flexibility and short enough for the Park and Draft method that I'm using. It slides well but not too slickly. I like the way it feels before and after it's spun.

Comments about Ashland Bay Falkland Wool Top:

This was some wonderful top! I used it with my drop spindle and it produced the softest yarn ever. Yay for wool! My only complaint it that it breaks really easily, but then most fiber does that.

Comments about Ashland Bay Falkland Wool Top:

I started spinning in June, 2013 and now in September (I spin daily from 30 minutes to several hours) I am on a project of spinning all sorts of wools and synthetics to get a feel of the use of each. I thought after using the BFL and silk that a plain wool would be disappointing but boy was I so so wrong! I came back on line today to buy more of the Faulkland. It is a dream to spin and have been doing so in woolen and worsted. Decided to do a sweater in this - it's true love!
