    Swans Island Watch Cap PDF

Like a stalwart seaman depicted in an Andrew Wyeth painting, this traditional cap has a certain rugged appeal. This hat is inspired by the classic government issue caps given to Navy sailors. The watch cap historically provided a simple and functional cap that could be worn by everyone. It is designed with a rolled up brim up to provide extra warmth around the ears. Our version adds more interest with a simple, easy to memorize “mistake rib” texture while maintaining the classic silhouette.

Comments about Swans Island Watch Cap PDF:

This pattern gives directions for several sizes from child to large adult. Swatching instructions make it easy to substitute a variety of yarns. It has an easy to learn "mistake rib" pattern. It's easy to fine tune the length of the hat for those who like the extra warmth of a folded cuff. The plain pattern shows off special yarns, yet is simple enough for guys who say "I just want a plain hat, Mom". I do stop before the final decreases and finish off a couple of rows earlier than suggested to get a flatter crown.
