Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer

The Kangaroo Dyer, our very own Gail Callahan, has done it again! She's created an amazing rainbow of color for our own Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk laceweight yarn. As if the fiber wasn't gorgeous enough, Gail enhances it with her unique sensibility, making the lacy garments created with it truly one of a kind. Soft, airy, and lovely. Yarn made in Peru; hand-dyed in USA.

I used Atlantis to knit a Rosalind shawl, which has a lovely celtic cable running down the center. This yarn was a perfect blend of texture to bring out the best in the cabling & lace. While not super-soft, the yarn has a nice hand and should stand up to normal wear & tear very well. I don't like fussy knits - if you can't wear it, why have it - and I'm confident that my Rosalind will look fabulous for a very long time. I would def recommend this yarn to anyone knitting lace or lace weight cables.[...]

Comments about Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

I am going to use the yarn in a sweater, and hope that it looks more red than orange. I do not wear lot of orange, as I am a blue-eyed blonde. My sister would probably like it, as she is a red-head and often wears more earthy tones than I can.

I'm using this as warp in Valley Yarns Draft #80 Feathers Scarf with dark brown in the same yarn as weft. It weaves beautifully & the dye job is superb. I've also used this yarn in the Storm & Atlantis colorways with the same lovely experience. Very soft & makes for cloth with a wonderful hand.

Lovely soft, warm and shiny yarn. But color not as bright as expected. Instead of brilliant carrot fading in and out with different darker shade, it is what I would call 'dirty carrot.'

Love this yarn. The colors are beautiful, even though they weren't quite what I was expecting from the picture online. It's heavenly soft, but that does mean it may pill easier. It does shed a lot, so have your lint roller ready. And it does split easily when you are working with it. Even still, it is so nice to work with and well worth it.

Comments about Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

I work almost exclusively with fine (fingering/lace weight) yarns, and I often combine 3 or more to form my own heavier weight yarns, or use the fine yarn as a "carry along" with a heavier yarn to add color or texture interest. The alpaca/silk is wonderful to work with. It adds softness, warmth, and color when worked together with other yarns. It would make an amazing lace shawl, as it is very strong for its weight. I'm very pleased with this yarn in every way.

Very soft, and nice to knit with. However, the two strands are prone to separating.
