I've been impressed with the 2/8 cotton spun in Canada over the "usual" 8/2 cotton available here in the U.S. This yarn, Valley's "Eight Two" seems about the same spin as 2/8 (no, 8/2 and 2/8 are not exactly the same though the weight is close), and I am enjoying weaving with it. It's a terrific weight for kitchen towels, comes in a large selection of colors, is strong for warp (*very* little breakage), and the texture is soft with a good drape (even for a towel this is important!). I'll use it again and again, I'm sure, once my stash begins to look depleted!

I used this yarn to make 10 yds of handwoven fabric. There were numerous breaks in the threads that had been retied on the cone. Some came untied during the weaving process which was disappointing. I was making this as a gift for someone else, so the knots were very discouraging to find.

The final fabric was nice though.

I bought this yarn to create soap sacks that are good to place a soap remnant in to finishing using the soap up. This yarn works great for that purpose.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

Using this for my first weaving experience with cotton; I was surprised about how many mill joins there were, some were quite thick so I'm not sure how they'll go through the reed; I guess I'll find out. There was a knot as well which although slightly annoying is I guess to be expected and with only one in a 7 yard warp wasn't too bad.

          Service and delivery comments:

Arrived within the expected timeframe and in good condition.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

This has become the only cotton I will use any more for the dishtowels I weave. Everyone I give the towels to comment on how soft they are after just one or two washings! I plan on also using this cotton for baby blankets and I think it will be perfect for those. I did use one cone that had several knots close together, which was frustrating but this is very unusual. Overall, it's wonderful!

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton:

It's a beautiful cotton to weave with. The kitchen towels I make are soft and absorbant.
Definitely use no less than 15 ends per inch. Otherwise it comes out not so soft. Especially with tabby weave. Weft I use 18 to the inch for tabby, it looks great.

My dishtowels woven with 8/2 cotton are just so soft and lovely. I used the cotton doubled, a bit more work for weaving but the finished towels are wonderful.

I have multiple colors of this thread. It makes wonderful woven products on my floor loom. One cone out of about a dozen had issues with multiple ties within the cone-but this has not been a issue overall.

the colors are beautiful, and the hand is lovely.
The swatch washed and dried beautifuly, however....
I knit a swatch and it biases badly. (I know it is made for weaving, but I've been trying to find a fine cotton yarn for machine knitting.)
I'll still use it but will have to knit it in tuck or full needle rib.
