For the price you can't beat it. I love that it knits up evenly and has enough "grabbiness" for stranded color work. A steam blocking softens the yarn and takes away the itch factor.
When compared to the many beautiful premium yarns Webs offers, this yarn will come up short. But when compared to the selection at my local chain craft store, it's really not too bad, lots of colors, some real wool, very inexpensive. I don't suggest using for garments, as it is rough, though I havent washed it yet.
Pros
- Did Not Pill
Cons
- Scratchy
Best Uses
- Blankets
I agree with the previous reviewer - this yarn is scratchy like wool. I used 3 different colors for a lap blanket (white, brown fleck, and evergreen). First of all, the brown and blue yarns felt much thinner/less dense than the white yarn ( but did not change the gauge of my stitches). Moreover, the "fleck" in the brown fleck looked and felt like guard hairs. Overall the blanket I made was very warm (I had a cat "helping" me by the end of my project, and my legs were burning from the heat of the blanket coupled with my furry helper). Also, it did soften up some after I washed it by hand with wool wash - but it still feels like your typical scratchy wool product. I would recommend treating this yarn as you would 100% wool.
This yarn is such a disappointment. It is so scratchy I can hardly knit with it. I don't think it could be worn against the skin.
