Ysolda Lee (Free)
Combining retro glamour and a unique construction this little hat is as fun to knit as it is to wear. Even the yarn, Valley Yarns Sheffield,
has a vintage feel, with just enough angora to give a luxurious halo. Lee begins with the little i-cord stalk at the back of the crown, a fun and simple way to cast on at the centre of a circle. Spiralling yarn overs shape the crown which is worked in the round to the top of the band at the back and then back and forth in rows to the front. Stitches for the band are then picked up along the sides of the crown and it is knit in the round with the contrast colour pleats knit in. A foldover hem allows the contrast colour to peek out and creates a double layered band giving the hat structure and extra warmth over the ears.
