    Lopi Léttlopi (Lite Lopi)

Lopi Léttlopi (Lite Lopi) is a classic worsted weight yarn great for Icelandic-style sweaters. The beautiful color selection makes Lopi Léttlopi perfect for fair isle work - from sweaters to mittens to pillows. It is great for felting as well.

I bought this yarn for a Craftsy class "Top Down Icelandic Sweater". I wanted other colors than those offered for sale with the class. Webs offered plenty of colors. And when buying the amount needed for the sweater it came along with a fantastic discount. I saved over $15.00! It was also shipped very quickly for free. I will be back for more and highly recommend this company. No regrets!

I thought I would have problems knitting with this highly textured wool. I didn't have any at all. Frogging out stitches to fix a row or two did take a little finessing, but it wasn't the hardest I have come across. One plus to the wool is that when my needles slipped out of about 15/20 stitches, it was really easy to pick them back up. They didn't run at all, they just sat there waiting for me to notice.

After washing and blocking, the sweater really softened up a lot. Don't get me wrong, you won't get this confused with Merino. It isn't that soft, but it doesn't feel like a relative to Brillo anymore. I have heard from others that each wash will continue to soften it up.

The colorwork with this yarn is really nice and even. I was very happy that it turned out as nice as it did. I am now on my second sweater and loving this yarn even more. It is also really easy to spit splice and so I have almost no yarn ends to weave in.

    My First Icelandic Sweater

I used this to make an Icelandic sweater. I liked that it is true Icelandic wool. There were some breaks in the wool and the join was not well done.

      Comments about Lttlopi (Lite Lopi):

I used the yarn to make fair isle knit in Icelandic tradition. Initially the yarn felt a bit coarse but after finishing it fluffed and is soft. It made a very warm sweater and is about worsted weight. The fiber are long so it felts easily but I wouldn't choose it for felting because the texture is so beautiful when knitted.

I was looking for a lighter version of the Alafoss (thick)yarn and discovered the Lett Lopi. I like the idea of having an Icelandic sweater that's not bulky.

            Comments about Lttlopi (Lite Lopi):

Have made several Icelandic sweaters. This yarn seems terribly coarse at first but, believe me, you'll love the results. By using hair conditioner in rinse water, it softens up wonderfully and will soften as it is worn. Great halo from the long fibers. Doesn't seem to pill. This is a workhorse of a yarn, which will last for years with a bit of care. easy to frog and pick up knit stitches as the yarn stays in place, so great for a beginner to knit with. Use metal needles for faster knitting. Currently knitting a lopi sweater for my DH and need more skeins. Dye lot will not be available, but I'm not too worried as I will alternate a few rows adding in the new color.
Also, yarn on back order. Not worried one bit as it will arrive when it's ready. Every time I wear my lopi sweater. I get tons of compliments. Thanks Webs for carrying this yarn.

I made a voyager hat for my step father for Christmas. I used 3 and a half balls of yarn to make a flat football shape hat on size 2 needles. You tuck one of the pointed ends into the the center of the hat so the hats is double in thickness and you can fold over the other pointed end so it looks like a old fashion stocking cap. It has been 10 - 25 degrees here in Alabama and Dad proudly wears his hat and grins. I loved working with this yarn. I am about to start another hat for my husband tomorrow.
